Counselors and students discussed the college application process and were given their unofficial high school transcript. Seniors were given a packet at the meeting to bring home. INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS Any student who would like to make an individual appointment with their counselor should come see Mrs. Snook in the counseling office. Counselors will review transcripts, graduation requirements, the application process, EDP s, discuss NCAA, and share other important information. COLLEGE NIGHT College Night is being held at Stoney Creek High School on October 14th from 6:30 8 p.m. Many colleges will be represented and available to answer any questions. College Night is held at one high school in Rochester each year. This event is open to all RCS high school students. If interested in playing college sports, please come to the NCAA informational meeting a half hour early, starting at 6pm.
SUNDAY GYM Wellness 1 is offered first semester starting on October 5 th and goes until January 11 th, 2-5pm at Adams. Wellness 2 is offered second semester starting on February 1 st and goes to April 26 th, 2-5pm at ACE. The cost is $275.00 no discounts for free and reduced lunch students. Attendance is mandatory at every class. Absence from a class will result in loss of credit. Students should come dressed for PE class on the first day. Class is subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. There will be a mandatory parent meeting prior to the start of each session at 6:30pm on October 1 st at ACE. Parents must attend to be informed of the e2020 process. Due to changes from e2020 to Edgenuity, all parents must attend this time. This class has PE activity that meets 10 times for 3 hours each time AND an online health component that must be completed at home. Pre testing and final exam testing in the building is also mandatory. Please ensure your students understand this piece. To sign up for the program through the SLP program log on to the online registration portal at http://rochester.augusoft.net/ Students should click on Summer and Optional classes. The wellness class is listed under project graduation and is the only class listed in that category. PSAT PSAT registration is fast approaching. Sign-up will begin September 24 th. More detailed sign-up instructions will be coming in the School Messenger. What is PSAT: It's a standardized test that provides first-hand practice for the SAT. It also gives students a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. The PSAT/NMSQT measures: -solving skills Who should take it: Juniors and Sophomores When: October 18, 2014 (7:45-11:15) Where: Adams High School Cost is $26 Why: This is not a required test, but it is strongly recommended for all juniors as practice for college entrance exams. It is also the ONLY test which will qualify a student for National Merit Scholarships.
FREE PRACTICE ACT FOR JUNIORS ATTENTION JUNIORS: There will be a free practice ACT (for juniors only) at Adams High School on Tuesday, November 4 th at 7:30am. Cost is free. Students must register for the practice test by visiting http://www.princetonreview.com/sat-act-free-practice-test.aspx or by calling 800-273-8439. The event ID number for Adams is 92640. FINANCIAL AID NIGHT Rochester Community Schools will be hosting a Financial Aid Night for ALL parents. The presentation will begin at 6:30 on November 20 th in the Stoney Creek High Auditorium. COLLEGE REP VISITS The following colleges will be visiting AHS to speak with upperclassman about their requirements, scholarships, programs and admissions. Seniors are allowed 2 college visits and juniors are allowed 3 visits. PROJECT GRADUATION Project Graduation is a credit recovery program delivered on-line for students in Rochester Community Schools. The program is designed to assist students in recovering credits in courses for graduation. The goal of this program is to accommodate students who have attempted but not successfully completed a course in the traditional learning environment; however, he/she is committed to completing the academic requirements for graduation. Counselors will work with students, parents and administration to evaluate the proper placement of students in this program. The program is a computer-based, online learning system that provides students with another medium for achieving academic credit. The online system allows students to work at their own pace in completing necessary
academic courses without sacrificing the rigor of a traditional classroom. The cost is $125, and $55 for students with free and reduced lunch. *There is a mandatory parent meeting October 1 st at 6:30pm at ACE required before student can attend class. Session I October 16, 2014-January 15, 2015. *All classes for AHS students will be held on Thursdays in room 251 from 3:30 p.m. 6:30 p.m. The first day will be October 16 th (however, if there are not enough students enrolled, students may have to attend Project Graduation at either RHS or SCHS). COMMON APPLICATION USER TIPS! 1. Initially, you are required to create an account at www.commonapp.org and record your Common Application ID. It is important to maintain this information for use later. 2. Utilize the School Forms section of the Common App Online to invite your counselor to be a recommender. This will trigger an email message to the counselor, providing instructions on submitting school forms online. Confirm with the counselor of an intention to submit school forms online. 3. Request a transcript to be sent to Common Application. 4. We do NOT rank. When you are asked to report the class rank reporting, select NONE. 5. You will need to invite a teacher for a letter of recommendation and evaluation. You will need to invite your counselors for an online secondary report and recommendation. Don t wait to the last step to invite your teachers and counselor. They can get started on their portion while you are working on yours. Once you invite your teachers you will need to assign them to the specific college/university.
