CRI Committee Roles and Responsibilities Welcome to CRI Thank you for being a member of CRI. This shows that you not only love to enjoy the benefits of CRI, but also that you are interested in the health and well-being of CRI. Our stated mission is to provide quality, affordable, educational opportunities for adults in a supportive environment. Our Advisory Board and Committee members work hard to be sure we do that. Please help by contributing your ideas, time, talents and your social support in our classrooms. One very important way to contribute, and to enhance your CRI experience, is by joining a CRI committee. Thanks for being an active part of this great organization.

Program Coordinator The primary role of CRI s Program Coordinator is to be the administrative liaison between Edmonds Community College and the members and volunteers who self-manage this institute for learning in retirement. Executive Committee To set the agenda for Advisory Board meetings and to act on behalf of the Advisory Board between meetings and on issues judged to be time critical. Actions are reported at the next Advisory Board meeting. This Committee is made up of the Advisory Board Chair, 1st Vice Chair, 2nd Vice Chair, Past Board Chair, Program Coordinator, and chairs of the standing committees. Advisory Board To advise and recommend to the Program Coordinator on matters of programs, finance and policy. The Board consists of the chairs of each committee and 15 representatives elected from the CRI membership. Each representative is elected for a three-year term. Five representatives are elected each year. To coordinate the activities of CRI in planning and presenting college level classes and to provide liaison between the CRI members and Edmonds Community College. Responsibilities of the Chair of the CRI Advisory Board: To set the meetings and agenda for the Advisory Board with the Executive Committee. To work cooperatively with the Program Coordinator of CRI. To appoint ad hoc committees as recommended and needed such as the Nomination Committee. To act as liaison between the Advisory Board and the central administration of Edmonds Community College.

To attend as many of the CRI committee meetings as possible. To encourage new and sustained membership in CRI. To assist in fund-raising for the Friends of CRI. CRI Standing Committees Audio/Visual Committee To provide technical audio/visual support for instructors. To attend all sessions of the class for which the Audio/Visual technician is assigned. To contact the instructor at least three weeks before the class begins. To introduce yourself and make whatever arrangements are necessary to prepare for the class. This may entail a meeting with the instructor prior to the beginning of the first session to test equipment. To arrive at the assigned classroom 30 minutes to an hour before class to set up the needed equipment. To carefully pack and return all equipment to its correct storage location after class. To make notes of any improvements or additions to the instructions that would be helpful for use of the equipment and send them to the committee chair. Class Assistants Committee To provide support for course instructors and class members. The committee recruits and oversees class assistants and offers them help if needed. To recruit a class assistant for each class. To send thank you notes and checklists for the venue to each class assistant. To offer class assistants help if there are questions.

To remind the assistants that it is their responsibility to go over the checklist and to become familiar with what is expected of them per the following: a) Assistant introduces self at the beginning of the first class; b) Assistant goes through the items on the checklist; c) Assistant introduces the instructor(s); d) Assistant passes out handouts (if provided); e) Assistant takes roll; f ) Assistant makes announcements; g) Assistant hands out and collects course evaluation at last class. Curriculum Committee To develop college-level academic classes open to all regardless of previous educational background. Our goal is to present a varied slate of courses each term. To determine what classes will be offered by reviewing suggestions, recruiting instructors and reviewing all proposals submitted. To contact instructors to secure completed course adoption forms. To prepare a schedule after final course approvals and to confirm the dates and times with all instructors. To edit the course adoption forms and proof copies of all assembled material for the brochure. To recommend appropriate action whenever enrollments indicate that a course cancellation or repetition may be advisable. To review all course evaluations, share results with instructors and use evaluations to help determine future classes. To ensure the financial health of CRI. Finance Committee To prepare the CRI annual budget by working with the various committees and the college to determine needs and expected costs, and develop a plan to generate sufficient matching revenue from charges and fees.

To track financial performance versus budget, by monitoring expenses and revenue on a monthly basis in order to make timely recommendations to the Advisory Board for changes as required. To evaluate proposals for changes in charges and fees and make recommendations to the Advisory Board. To respond to requests from the Executive Committee or Advisory Board concerning financial matters and policies. Marketing and Membership Committee To promote CRI in the community by informing individuals of the benefits of membership, encourage recruitment of new members and renewal of membership by current and past members. To develop awareness of CRI through community activities, personal contacts, publicity, advertising and press releases. To support the Speakers Committee. To design and distribute the quarterly brochures and other appropriate literature. To publish the CRI newsletter (CRIer) and the annual member directory. To update and maintain the CRI website. Social Committee The Social Committee is social in two ways: It was created to serve the social side of the CRI experience and at the same time it develops a sense of camaraderie among its members. Everyone on the Committee is encouraged to share their creative ideas and abilities in planning and making decorations for the quarterly luncheons. To plan and implement the quarterly kick-off events as well as other social events appropriate for enjoyment. To organize the reception desk and welcome members at the quarterly luncheons. To organize and act as hostesses for the Summer Social.
