Application Platforms

Demonstrates strong interest (for some colleges, that gives you additional points) You receive an admissions decision earlier ED: Early Decision is binding. If you are accepted, you must commit to that school. You can only apply to 1 school ED. EA: Not binding. You apply earlier and find out earlier. You are not obligated to commit. You should only apply EA or ED if it is a strong interest school for you AND you have all the documents you need (test scores, letters of recommendation, etc.)

Letters of Recommendation Letters of recommendation are requested NOT ASSUMED!

Letters of Rec Please give your recommender at least two weeks notice prior to due date, so they have sufficient time to write your letter All requests must also include a quality LOR Packet which can be found on our THS website under the counseling tab Remember...teachers and counselors will not be working on letters during Thanksgiving or Christmas break - Plan Accordingly!

LOR Questions...yes, we want you to answer all of them! 1. What are you planning to study in college? Tell me what you are looking for in a college experience? How do each of the schools on your list match what you want? 1. What are your favorite academic subjects? Which courses have motivated you and WHY? How would a teacher describe you as a student in their classroom? (please give examples) 1. Tell me about one or two significant activities (clubs, sports, organizations, community service, drama, music, religious groups, internships, work experience, etc.) in which you have been actively involved. What did you do? How long have you been doing it? What skills or life lessons did you learn from it. 1. What are you planning on contributing in college (joining organizations, starting programs, becoming a residential advisor, participating in research, etc.)? 1. Are there any personal or family struggles that may help the admissions office better understand your life circumstances? 1. If either of your parents graduated from college, which college did they attend, or are you the first generation to attend college? Where did/do any of your siblings attend college? 1. If you work, where do you currently work and how long have you been employed? What are your duties? What do you do with your income? 1. Where do you ideally see yourself in the next 10 years? 1. Please attach of a copy of your college application personal statement, or briefly explain what you will be writing about. 1. Admission officers love stories. Please tell me a story about yourself in one of the following areas: Originality, Concern for Others, Leadership, Confidence, Maturity.

SAT/ACT December is the last SAT/ACT exam colleges will accept for regular application deadlines December exam cannot be your first and only test if you are applying to certain private universities or programs within UC/CSU

Official Transcripts

Common Application, Coalition Application, Send.Edu: Transcripts are submitted by your counselor digitally with the letter of recommendation UC and CSU s: If a CSU or UC is requesting a mid year transcript, you must order an official transcript with the registrar All schools for official transcripts: Every university will require a final, official transcript at the end of the year. You must order these from the registrar during your spring semester. Counselors do NOT give you official transcripts for this purpose. Only Mrs. Garcia - Registrar.

Community College First two years of gen ed credits, certificate programs, or associate s degrees Transfer students from CC are given priority admission at CSU/UC campuses Economic option for students, average cost of CC is less than half the cost of a public 4 year university and about 1/10 the cost of private institutions

Community College Most application windows are open Complete applications early online HS Seniors receive priority registration over current CC students so take advantage of those early application dates Take Math and English placement test Meet with community college counselor/advisor Create your 1st semester plan Register for classes Check portal account for updates Attend Senior Days in spring

Remember: scholarships are monies you do NOT have to pay back. The investment in time to apply is WELL WORTH IT so don t miss out.
