WV PBS.2 September 2013 Highlights Go Back to School with WV PBS.2 on Thursdays in September Programs about our education system, school sports, our children s online safety and more Thursday, September 5 9:00 p.m. -- August to June: Bringing Life to School -- asks viewers to stop and reconsider how we achieve what we really value for our children and society. That it will look different in different communities is a given, and is the beginning of understanding why we cannot legislate how to teach, or put all our eggs in standardized measurements of success. Give communities well-prepared and supported teachers, in schools that are well-equipped and well-staffed, then let those communities create the learning environments best suited to their needs. Thursday, September 19 7:00 p.m. -- Frontline: Football High -- Corporate sponsorships, nationally televised games, minute-by-minute coverage on sports websites -- for players, parents and coaches, high school football has never been bigger. But is enough being done to ensure players safety as the intensity of the sport grows? In Football High, FRONTLINE investigates the new face of high school football. Thursday, September 12 7:00 p.m. -- Get The Math (pictured above) helps middle and high school students develop algebraic thinking skills for solving real-world problems. Drawing on conventions of popular reality TV shows, Get The Math challenges teens to solve a series of problems using algebraic thinking. Segments begin with profiles of young professionals with interesting careers in fashion design, video game development and music production. Then, those individuals challenge two pairs of high school students to work through problems connected to their jobs. Thursday, September 26 8:00 p.m. -- : Porn 101 9:00 p.m. -- : Predators 101 10:00 p.m. -- : The Evolving Web These Internet Safety 101 programs were created to prevent Internet-initiated crimes against children through educating, equipping and empowering parents, educators and caring adults with the knowledge and resources needed to protect children from online pornography, sexual predators and cyber bullies, as well as cyber security risks and dangers related to social networking, online gaming and mobile devices. The proven evidence-based curriculum motivates and equips adults to implement both safety rules (non-technical measures) and software tools (technical measures) on youth s Internet enabled devices.
