Statements & Search Criteria Mission Here at ArtsMemphis, we re working to sustain Memphis world-renowned cultural vitality and strengthen local communities through the arts. Background ArtsMemphis sustains Memphis world-renowned cultural vitality and strengthens local communities through the arts. We pursue this mission by: amplifying awareness and driving arts support; investing in, and forging connections for, artists and organizations; and modeling organizational effectiveness. We envision a Memphis in which every individual feels pride in our city s authentic cultural assets and experiences the impact of the arts in their lives. In pursuit of that vision, we're guided by a commitment to access, equity and inclusion, creativity and innovation, and transparency. Founded in 1963, ArtsMemphis has invested $80+ million in Shelby County arts organizations. Over the last decade, we have invested $40 million and created opportunities to support individual artists. We awarded 160+ grants to 67 arts organizations and 8 artists totaling nearly $2.5 million this year. We are one of the nation's largest United Arts Funds and were ranked 7 out of 44 in 2016. Like 75% of United Arts Funds, contributing unrestricted operating support to arts mission based organizations is our primary focus. ArtsMemphis remains one of the top sources for unrestricted funds for many Memphis arts groups. We also offer grant opportunities in the form of project support, capacity building, technology funding, visual artist support, and professional development scholarships. As our city s primary arts-focused funder, our grants are more than transactions; we provide ongoing guidance and oversight. We also serve as a hub for advocacy and promotion of the arts sector. We brought together 70+ Shelby County arts groups last year to complete the Americans for the Arts Arts & Economic Prosperity Study 5 in partnership with the Tennessee Arts Commission. Our region s nonprofit arts groups support more than 6,000 local jobs and generate over $20 million per year in government revenue (full study available at ArtsMemphis.org/Arts-Economic-Prosperity).
