1 Job Description Minor Illness Practitioner Job Summary The King Street Walk in Centre (WIC) is a nurse led and patient focussed service based within the centre of Wakefield. The WIC provides healthcare access and provision to the surrounding community for those attending with a primary care, minor illness or minor injury related condition. The minor illness practitioner will work as an autonomous practitioner in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting to the service. The Minor Illness Practitioner will work within agreed guidelines and protocols to deliver a safe, effective and efficient service. The post holder will also be required to support the development of the WIC in order that the its purpose and function is appropriate to the demands placed upon the service. Principle Responsibilities Work within the King Street Walk in Centre as an autonomous practitioner caring for patients, their families and significant others Utilise advanced clinical skills to provide education to service users and empower them to make informed choices about their treatment Work as an autonomous practitioner in accordance with their professional body Work within the policies and procedures laid out by Local Care Direct Clinical Responsibilities To assess, diagnose, treat and refer or signpost patients who attend with undifferentiated or undiagnosed condition relating to primary care, minor illness or minor injury Liaise and network closely with other colleagues within primary and secondary care and other agencies, referring patients as necessary Ensure evidence based care is delivered at a high standard to patients providing expert clinical advice when appropriate To formally and informally disseminate knowledge and skills to other colleagues, promoting peer review and reflective practice within the King Street WIC Identify own professional development needs through the Personal Development Review Process To participate in the audit process, evaluating the service, implementing action plans and change of practice as necessary Be actively involved in the development of new policies and procedures Prescribe medications as appropriate following national and local guidance
2 Be computer literate and have experience of using SystmOne Establish patient capacity and obtain informed consent prior to care delivery.
