CITY OF MYRTLE POINT Invites applications for the position of: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator SALARY: $3,199 - $4,210 monthly ($18.46 - $24.29 per hour) OPENING DATE: 10/3/2017 CLOSING DATE: Open until filled THE POSITION: The City of Myrtle Point collects and treats domestic, commercial and industrial wastewater from within the city limits. There are approximately 1,000 properties served by the system and a population of 2,525 persons. The Wastewater Treatment Plant, constructed in 2016, consists of a dual basin activated sludge plant utilizing BIOWORKS treatment equipment. The process includes screening and grit removal, aeration by floating fine-bubble diffusers, sludge removal in four upflow clarifiers, and ultraviolet disinfection. Final solids handling includes the capability to produce Class A biosolids utilizing a heated screw press. The plant has the latest in automation allowing control of all functions from the SCADA system or mobile devices linked to the system. The wastewater collection system is primarily by gravity but includes three pump stations to provide service to areas where gravity service is not feasible. Flows in the system have significant seasonal variation based on rainfall. The design average dry weather flow (ADWF) of the plant is 0.18 MGD while the design peak instantaneous flow (PIF) is 4.4 MGD. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for daily operation of the treatment plant, general maintenance of plant equipment and grounds, and coordination with Public Works staff for equipment repairs and large scale maintenance as necessary. Ability and experience using computer software applications related to the work: SCADA, spreadsheet, word processing and maintenance management systems. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS/LICENSURE 1. A valid Oregon Drivers License is required and acceptable driving record at the time of hire. 2. Employee shall possess and retain minimum Grade 3 certification in Wastewater Treatment. Responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day operation of the wastewater treatment plant remains in compliance with state and federal regulations and the permit under which the treatment plant operates (to the extent capable). SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Reports to and receives administrative direction from the Public Works Director. Coordinates with Relief Operator and public works employees assigned to wastewater treatment plant operations. QUALIFICATION To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
