About School Notre Dame s history goes back to Utica Catholic Academy which was established in 1834 and St. Francis de Sales High School which was established in 1870. Founded in 1960, Notre Dame High School subsequently merged with other Catholic schools and became the only Catholic school in Utica. Notre Dame is a premier Catholic school in New York State. Notre Dame offers a quality education in a safe and productive learning atmosphere. All of Notre Dame s graduates go on to college. Utica is located in a region with rich education tradition. New Hartford Public School District is ranked among the top 1% in the US. Renowned higher education institutions, i.e. Hamilton College, Colgate University and Utica College are in this area. All students are encouraged to express their faith through active participation in parish events and volunteer community service. Through the campus ministry program, students serve as retreat leaders, tutors, and advocates for the poor. The Notre Dame curriculum complies or exceeds with all New York State Regents requirements while offering programs to meet the academic needs of all students. Advanced placement, accelerated courses and dual credit college courses, as well as tutorial assistance, are available. Over one-half of the student population in grades 10-12 is part of the optional NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) program. These cadets (male and female) demonstrate leadership and citizenship as they contribute more than 3,000 volunteer hours within the Utica area annually. The Mock Trial Program, sponsored by the New York State Bar Association, offers Notre Dame students the opportunity to learn the dynamics of a trial, and to actually work with lawyers to start to learn the skills of advocacy. In 2012, the Notre Dame Mock Trial Team was undefeated in the Oneida County Mock Trial tournament and represented Oneida and Herkimer Counties in the Regional tournament. Notre Dame just launched a $10 million dollar campaign to make it a better school. A new school building, as well as an auditorium / multipurpose building is about to be completed to better serve the students.

Curriculum Notre Dame offers courses in the following departments: English Social Studies Math Science Foreign Language Naval Science Career / Technology Computer / Technology Fine Arts Physical Education Religion In additional to the New York State Regents requirements, Notre Dame offers abundant AP courses, as well as college level courses. With a small fee, Notre Dame students can take college courses from nearby Utica College, Mohawk Valley Community College and SUNY Polytechnic Institute. Athletics Here at Notre Dame Junior/Senior High School, student participation in athletics, as a player or a spectator, is an important part of their high school educational experience. Athletics teaches students how to function as a team, as well as teaching them sportsmanship, friendly competition, self-discipline and respect for others. Through athletics, a Notre Dame student develops not only as an athlete but as a person as well. We believe that no one works harder, or practices harder than we do. At Notre Dame, athletics is our number two focus. Our number one focus is academics. Only students in good academic standing are eligible to participate in athletic competition. Notre Dame offers the following sports: Basketball Football Soccer Baseball Softball Golf Cross Country Tennis Bowling
