COMMANDANT S MESSAGE Orlando Garza, Commandant HONOR COURAGE COMMITMENT Marines and Associates, Happy New Year to each of you. I hope that 2014 was a good year and expect great things to happen in 2015. On a personal note, last year flew by me. As many of you know, I had a major surgery that took me away or prevented me from doing some of my duties. I m in better health now and I hope to move the recognition of our beloved League in a positive manner. The installation of officers took place during our MCL CHRISTMAS PARTY. Texas Department MCL Commandant, Amado Trevino, swore in the officers. Your 2015 Alamo Detachment Officers remain the same with the exception of our new Sgt at Arms, John Hubble. The officers will be meeting in the near future to discuss 2015 annual event planning and budgets. We have a full list of scheduled events that will require the help and support of all our members. Long time friend and marine Wounded Warrior Regiment staff NCOIC MSgt Blaine Scott retired from the Marine Corps this Friday, January 16 at 11 AM. Services were held at the Marine Wounded Warrior Regiment on SAMMC. We extend a sincere congratulations and a heartfelt well wish to MSgt Scott, his wife Lilly and their children in their future endeavors. Thursday, February 12th, The Spirit Cookers and Alamo Detachment MCL are preparing lunch for the Marine Wounded Warriors. We'll need volunteers to help serve the Marines. If you find yourself free, come out and join us. More details and the time are coming soon.

At 1315, a guided tour & social hour will take place, 1420 Prayer -Presentation of Colors Pledge Singing Marines Hymn Retire Colors. A meal follows at The Monument Inn. The Battleship Texas is being commemorated for the formation of the 1st Marine Division on board the Battleship on February 01, 1941. Erik Zielinski, Supervisory Program Specialist (Former Marine) with the VA Fisher House. He spoke to our members about some of the needs of the Fisher House and has and several different opportunities that our Detachment can help with on an ongoing basis. This includes the opportunity of preparing meals on regular basis and many others things. To band those who are serving and those who have been honorably discharged from that service together in fellowship, that they may effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy. To fit its members for the duties of citizenship and to encourage them to serve as citizens as they have served our nation under arms. To hold sacred memory and history of men and women who have given their lives for the nation. To foster love for the principles that they have supported by blood and valor since the founding of the republic. To maintain true allegiance to American institutions. To aid voluntarily and to render assistance to all Marines, uniformed and civilian, as well as to their surviving spouses and orphans. Alamo Detachment 2014, Wounded Warrior Christmas party The Detachment held its Wounded Warrior Christmas party on December 18 th at the Marine Annex.
