This is a one-year award for $1250.00. A. Applicants must graduate high school between December 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018. B. Applicants must have a letter from their college or university showing acceptance for admission for the fall 2018 school year. If an applicant is taking a gap year they must have a letter of acceptance for the spring or fall 2019 school year. Part 1 of the application is to be completed by the applicant. Part 2 must be a hand-written statement telling why you deserve this grant and how it will help you achieve your academic career goal. DO NOT EXCEED 500 words. Failure to meet the deadline or to submit all required documentation will result in your application not being considered. We recommend that you submit any additional materials or letters of reference that offer a complete picture of your academic work. In addition, please include information that relates to
your activities in community service, Jewish affairs and extracurricular service that relates to your activities as part of the application. SELECTION GUIDELINES This TALO Youth Achievement Grant will be awarded to the children or grandchildren, of a current or deceased JWV/JWVA member within the Department of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma (TALO). The application must be signed by an active (dues current) JWV/JWVA member related to the applicant. Should the JWV/JWVA relative be deceased, the Post Commander may certify the application. In all cases, the application must be signed by the JWV member s Post Commander. The applicant must complete all sections of the attached application. The TALO Youth Achievement Grant winner will be announced at the TALO Annual Convention in EL Paso, TX on Saturday June 09, 2018. Applicant and parents are encouraged to be present. Applicants will be judged by documented academic achievement, standardized test, class standing, extracurricular activities and community/veteran service. Attach a list and documentation of all extracurricular clubs and activities in which you participated while you were a junior or senior in high school. Be sure to include a list of all offices that you held. Include a list of activities which you participated in that relate to character or career development, community service, volunteer work and activities which
demonstrate patriotism and good citizenship bringing honor to your cultural heritage. Submit a statement written in your own handwriting stating why you deserve this grant and how it will help you achieve your academic career goals. DO NOT EXCEED 500 words.
