FESTIVAL MOZAIC JOIN US Take the Cal/Stanford Challenge!
Through special arrangement, we have booked a block of tickets for the Orchestra Series final event, Saturday July 23 at 8:00 p.m. at the PAC. So have those other guys from across the bay! We will be treated to Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in G Major. Special guest tenor Bobby Hill will perform. He is the young boy with a five octave range who performed a capella for the Pope during his 2015 visit to the U.S. Conductor Scott Yoo will lead the orchestra. We have a great section in the center of the Dress Circle, so great sight lines, great acoustics and a great opportunity to showcase the CCCAC as a Festival sponsor for that event. On top of that, you'll also get 15% off the cost of the ticket if you purchase from CCCAC. Tickets are just $55. So get your reservation in now, and see if we can sell out our section before the Bluejays, er, I mean, the Woodpeckers, oh,that isn't right either, you know, those pesky redbirds. Contact Bud Zeuschner by email at: rfzjr@aol.com and let him know how many tickets to send you. Hey, you were planning to go anyway, so take advantage of the discount, the sponsorship credits and the camaraderie of sitting with your favorite alumni.

Leadership Award Committee Volunteers Established in 1934, The Leadership Award is a one-year, merit-based scholarship that recognizes undergraduate students at UC Berkeley who demonstrate innovative, initiativedriven leadership impacting their academic, work, or community environments. Students compete for the scholarship every year, ensuring
a diverse and dynamic annual cohort of leaders whose work is relevant and newly inspiring. This year, Cal received a record number of applications (over 4,000!). If you would like to be part of the effort to interview our exceptional local students, we seek up to 3 local alumni volunteers to assist with interviews, which are anticipated to take place between May 21 and June 11, 2016. This requires about a three hour commitment one weekday evening between 5-8 p.m. If you would like to volunteer for this rewarding opportunity to interview local students who have committed to attend Cal, please email Joan Parker at parkerjoan@sbcglobal.net. Meet Our New Board Members Ann Wassam Ann Wassam graduated from Cal in 1972 with a degree in philosophy. She earned a Masters in Library Science from the University of Oregon in 1977. Her library career was brief-one year as a reference librarian at the Santa Maria Public
Library. She then worked for the State Bar in San Francisco for twenty years where she helped organize pro bono programs and later served as Director of Bar Relations. From 2001 to 2014, Ann served as the Executive Director of the Alameda County Bar Association, responsible for the day-to-day operations of a 2,000 member professional organization of lawyers, judges and legal professionals. Now retired and living in Paso Robles, Ann provides occasional coaching and nonprofit consultations. She studies piano and cello, lunches with friends, explores wineries and visits the Bay Area frequently. Cal Wilvert Cal and his wife arrived in Berkeley 50 years ago; Cal was a geography graduate student and Rosemary was a senior in the English department. Having just spent two boring years
in the Army in Oklahoma and Texas, he felt he had achieved nirvana. During his years in Berkeley, he loved everything, the beauty of the campus, the weather, and most of all the stimulating courses. He started his teaching career at the University of Vermont in 1970. When a position opened at Cal Poly in 1973, they were grateful to return West. Cal retired in 2004. Steve Bollinger Steve Bollinger was born in Minnesota and raised on a farm in the San Joaquin Valley. He attended Cal Berkeley from 1961-1964 and played some football while there. He eventually transferred to UCSF in 1968 where he received a PharmD degree. He was a practicing pharmacist in a variety of locations around the state of California and retired in 2013. Steve has lived in San Luis Obispo County since 1970 and in Arroyo Grande for approximately the last 30 years. We are so pleased to have him join our board.
Scholarship Endowment At our January 2016 meeting, the Board voted unanimously to contribute $10,000 to the Berkeley Scholarship Endowment. This was entirely due to the generosity of members like you. Our treasurer Dan Bertozzi reports that the current balance in our scholarship account is approximately $180,000.
