Once approved; we will notify you of your PEF number, payment details and other relevant information you will need. On this page you can also find downloadable resources to support your event. Resources Parkinson s NSW provides many resources that can help you educate people about Parkinson s and the work that Parkinson s NSW does. You can find this information on our website www.parkinsonsnsw.org.au We have many resources you can download and print out to support your activity; such as: invitations, posters, thank you s and bunting for decoration. 5

Getting Started The Activity Process Follow these steps to make your activity a success Step 1: Set the date, location & choose your activity. Make sure you plan at least 2 months beforehand. Step 2: Complete the Fundraising Application Form on our website (or call us or email). Once this is approved you ll receive an Authority to Fundraise letter. Step 3: Download our resources to help spread the word about your activity www.parkinsonsnsw.org.au Step 4: If you are raising money create an online fundraising page to direct people to and set yourself a goal. We recommend using gofundraise.com.au. You can find out how to set up a page on our website. Step 5: Ask friends and family if they will help you organise your activity. Step 6: Have fun during your activity. You are helping to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson s. Step 7: Remember to bank the donations within 14 days of holding the event. Remember to use the PEF number on your authority letter when you transfer the money. Step 8: Send out Thank you notes to those who helped you and participated. Step 9: Let us know how your activity went. If you took pictures we would love to see them. Post them on facebook.com/parkinsonsnsw or email to events@parkinsonsnsw.org.au 6

Tips for success... Awareness Stall tips for success We always look for help to raise awareness of Parkinson s NSW. Have you considered helping to educate your community? Date We recommend holding your Awareness Stall on April 11 which is World Parkinson s Day or during September which is Parkinson s Awareness Month. Or pick a day that has meaning to you. Location We have had a lot of success from people holding their Awareness Stall in Shopping Centres. You will need to apply to the shopping centre for permission to hold the stall. Resources Request some Parkinson s NSW Service Brochures and our Postcards. Hand these out at your stall and let people know where to find Parkinson s NSW and the services that we offer. If they have questions you can direct them to the InfoLine on 1800 644 189 Promotion Download our posters and ask the shopping centre to put them up to advertise when your stall will be there. Decoration You might like to download the bunting which you can find on the website to put around your stall to decorate. 7

Tips for success... Wear Purple for Parkinson s Ideas You could hold this anywhere. There couldn t be an easier way to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson s NSW. This is a great activity for workplaces. Location Decide if it will be the whole office that will wear purple of if it s just your department. Does it only have to be one purple item or a whole outfit? Will you have an afternoon tea with purple food? You can make the activity as big or as little as you like. Promotion Put up your posters around the office to remind people in the week before. Ask HR if they can include it in the weekly email to staff that for only a gold coin that they can wear purple and help raise funds and awareness for Parkinson s in the office. Decoration You might also want to download the purple bunting from our website and decorate the office. How will you raise funds Have a donation bucket on the day and collect gold coins from the staff members. Remember to take lots of photos! Post on facebook.com/parkinsonsnsw or email them to events@parkinsonsnsw.org.au 8

Tips for success... Music Night This could be a school talent quest or a performance by a local band at the pub. It is a great way to have a fun night with friends and family and help raise funds and awareness for Parkinson s NSW. *Below are tips for a school talent quest. Recommended date A Friday night is a great night as people aren t worried about staying out too late. Hold the talent quest in the school hall as everyone knows where it is. How will you raise funds Have a gold coin entry for the night. Or set entry at the door to $5 Promotion Download the posters from our website and put them up in the local shopping centre and around school. Ask your school to put a notice in the parents newsletter. Decoration Download and cut out the bunting to put up around the stage for the performance. Make sure you request some of our postcards to let people know who the money is going to and the services Parkinson s NSW provide. Consider having this as an annual talent show and raising money for Parkinson s NSW every year. 9

Tips for success... Coffee for a Cause Ideas Do you have a favourite coffee shop that has the best brew and queues around the corner. Why not ask them to help with Coffee for a Cause. For every cup they sell in a given period they donate $1. Duration We recommend that this activity be held over a few days. If the coffee shop knows that they have a particularly busy period; such as Friday-Sunday ask for them to donate during that period. Promotion Download the poster and put it up in the coffee shop, and around the neighbourhood. Request and display the Parkinson s NSW Services brochure. How will you raise funds Is the coffee shop going to donate $1 from each coffee? Will patrons be requested to leave their change in a donation box? Daily indulgence drop great for workplaces How much do you think you spend weekly on coffee? What about that sushi that you get for lunch every day? Why not challenge yourself and some friends to give up their indulgence for a week and donate the money you would have spent. Duration We recommend running this activity for a week to a month. Rules Think about how the activity will run? Should people participating be penalised for purchasing their daily indulgence and have to contribute double the cost instead? Promotion Spread the word by sending out invitations to your family, friends and co-workers letting them know what you are doing. Have them help keep you honest. Collecting monies Have everyone contribute at the end of each week. Set up an online fundraising page so that you can direct everyone to the same donation point. 10

Tips for success... How to support your Fundraising activity Create a fundraising page Make it easy for your friends and family to support you and share it with their friends and co-workers. Have a goal This is something to reach for. This will help create a destination. Make it Personal Did Grandma have Parkinson s, or does your brother have it? Did you just find out your hairdresser has been diagnosed or have you heard how it affects everyone and you want to help. Tell your story. Be Your First Donor People are more likely to donate if they can see $ someone else has done it. You can t ask others to do what you won t. Reach Out Contact close friends and family first. Often the people most willing to help are the people you are closest to. Embrace Social Media Don t be afraid to share your activity on all your social media channels; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Helpful Resources Frequently Asked Questions Q. I would like to have a party but instead of gifts I would like people to make a donation to Parkinson s NSW. How do I do this? A. There are two ways that you can do this to help make a meaningful donation for your special occasion. 1. Create an online fundraising page to direct people to. It is quick, easy and fun but most importantly, secure. Donations are collected online and automatically transferred to Parkinson s NSW. 2. You can collect the funds yourself and transfer to money to Parkinson s NSW via bank transfer. Please contact Accounts on 02 8051 1900 for our details. Q. I want to advertise my fundraising event. Can you help me advertise? A. Unfortunately, due to limited resources we are not able to personally help you advertise the event. The resource centre is full of terrific tools to help you promote your event. Please be sure to go there and have a look! If you are aiming to raise over $10,000, we may be able to offer additional supplies. Q. Can you supply me with receipt books? A. All donations over $2 are tax deductible, however receipts are only given when there is not an exchange for goods or services. For example, if money is collected for raffles and auctions a receipt is not provided. Q. Do you have merchandise we can sell at our event? And what is the best way to use merchandise? A. Please go to our merchandise page to browse and select what is best for your event. You can complete the order form there. Q. How do I bank the money I raised? A. The policy at Parkinson s NSW is to bank money raised within 14 days of your community fundraiser. When you received your Authority to Fundraise letter the banking details are advised. Q. I want to do a Community Fundraising event. What is the process? A. Looking at the Community Activity Guide is a perfect first step! This will help you with the ideas and procedure to follow to hold your activity. 13
