Veteran of the Armed Forces (additional financial aid may be available) INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATION Please follow the steps listed below to ensure that your application is complete. Due to an increase in recent Academy attendance, it is recommended that you complete and submit your application as soon as possible. 1. All applications are to be submitted to the Fire Technology Secretary, Andrew Gebara, located in PSAH-203. Applications may be submitted in person or via email to agebara@craftonhills.edu. If submitting via email, be sure to scan and attach all required documents (see page 2). If you have any questions, please call Andrew Gebara at (909) 389-3408. 2. We highly recommend that you submit your application even if you are in the process of completing the necessary prerequisites. However, it is your responsibility to make sure that the remaining prerequisites are completed and submitted prior to the application deadline. 3. APPLICATION PACKET REQUIREMENTS 1. TRANSCRIPTS If you completed coursework at CHC, submit unofficial transcripts. If you completed coursework at any other institution, you will need to submit official transcripts to our office. We highly recommend that you have the official transcripts sent to your home and then hand-deliver them to PSAH-203. 2. Copy of EMT Course Completion Certificate and proof of National Registry card or local EMSA card. 3. Copy of BIDDLE or CPAT card that is valid through the last day of the academy. 4. PHYSICAL CLEARANCE FORM (see attached form on page 5). 5. Once the completed application is turned in, you will receive a conditional acceptance letter into the Fire Academy. 6. Week 1 of the Academy consists of the Enhanced Skills and Performance Program. This program is designed to better prepare you for the rigorous academy ahead, and will be conducted Monday-Friday from August 26, 2019 through August 30, 2019 from 0700-1700 hours. Expect to be tested both physically and mentally. *All meetings will be held in the Public Safety & Allied Health (PSAH) building (#201)* OVERVIEW OF THE FIRE ACADEMY The Crafton Hills Regional Fire Academy is one of the premier fire academies in Southern California designed to meet the State Fire Marshal s Basic Skills requirements for Firefighter I Certification. In most cases, this certification is a requirement to apply for the position of Firefighter. CHC Fire Academy is accredited through the California State Fire Marshal s Office. The Fire Academy is a full-time academy. The Academy starts at 0600 hours and ends at approximately 1700 hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and occasional Wednesdays and Saturdays for 16 weeks. The Fall 2019 Fire Academy starts on Monday, August 26, 2019 and ends on Tuesday, December 10, 2019. You will not be excused from the Academy to test with hiring departments. The 18 Unit Fire Academy includes FIRET 115 (Firefighter I, Basic Training Academy) and the CAL FIRE Basic Wildland Fire Academy. The corequisite KIN/F 049 ( Basic Firefighter Physical Fitness ) will account for two of these units. In addition to the above certifications, you will also earn certificates in: S-130, S-190, Fire Control 3B, Fire Control 4, Fire Control 6, Vehicle Extrication, Confined Space Awareness, Firefighter Survival, Low-Angle Rope Rescue Operational, Haz-Mat FRO. 2
The CHC Fire Academy is an extremely intense training program with a heavy emphasis on personal safety through self-discipline, teamwork and skills development. The goal of the Fire Academy is to provide the cadet with the basic entry level skills of a firefighter in a positive learning environment. WHAT ARE THE PHYSICAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS Since firefighting is an extremely physically demanding profession, strength and stamina are emphasized. It is strongly advised that you enter the academy in top physical shape. If you cannot run effectively at an 8-9 minute-mile pace for extended periods, you will need to train hard between now and then. Get ready for the most challenging experience of your life! Suggested Pre-Fire Academy Workout: Run = 3 miles within twenty-seven minutes Pull-ups = 4 sets of 4 within three minutes Sit-ups = 100 within four minutes (elbows to knees) Push-ups = 100 within four minutes (may rest in plank position and lift one hand for rest but legs must stay straight) 3

This is to certify that the above named individual is medically clear to participate in the following physical requirements of the Crafton Hills College Basic Firefighter Academy. 1.
