ATKINS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Atkins Elementary School will have an open house orientation on Monday, August 13, 2012. Pre-K and Kindergarten parents will visit the school from 4:30-5:30 and Grades 1-5 can visit the school between the hours of 5:30-7:00. Parents of kindergarten students and those students new to the Atkins community are encouraged to come to the school to enroll their child by August 1, 2012. To enter kindergarten, students must be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2012. A child s physical form, immunization record, and birth certificate are required for enrollment. Atkins Elementary School s office hours are 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please call the school at 276-783-3366 if you have questions. CHILHOWIE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Registration for Kindergarten will be held each workday beginning Monday, August 1, 2012, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Parents are reminded to bring a copy of the immunizations record, birth certificate, physical form and any other pertinent data. Registration for Kindergarten and other new students coming to Chilhowie Elementary School should be completed prior to the opening day of school on August 16, 2012. Chilhowie Elementary School will hold a Back to School Night on Monday, August 13, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Parents and students are invited to meet with teachers and visit the classrooms at this time. This will be an excellent opportunity for parents and students to locate rooms, meet teachers, and determine what their child will need for the school year. MARION INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL All Marion Intermediate School students and their parents are cordially invited to our annual Back to School Orientation and Open House that will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, from 1:00-6:00 p.m. Teachers will be available to meet with students and parents during Open House. This will be an excellent time to find your child s classroom, meet your child s teacher, and discuss the upcoming school year with the teacher. Classroom supply lists and information about your child s new grade level will be distributed at Open House. The PTO will also be on hand to welcome parents to Marion Intermediate School and showcase volunteer opportunities available at our many fun school events this year. Classroom assignments will be posted on the front doors at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10. Please call or stop by Marion Intermediate School if you have any questions. Office hours are 9:00-3:00 Monday Friday prior to school starting on August 16, and the phone number is 783-2609. MARION PRIMARY SCHOOL The staff and faculty of Marion Primary School are excited about the new school year! We are very excited about the renovations that have been completed and the

renovations to come. Due to the construction at Marion Primary school the class lists will be posted at Marion Intermediate School on Friday, August 10, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. Our Open House will be held at Marion Primary School and is scheduled for Tuesday, August 14, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. All parents and students are encouraged to drop by the school to meet their teacher and visit their classrooms. Parents of children who will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2012, are eligible to begin kindergarten. Parents who have not yet registered their child for kindergarten should come to Marion Intermediate School as soon as possible to complete the registration paperwork. The school must have the child s physical form, immunization record, and birth certificate to enroll a student. If you have questions about the new school year, please do not hesitate to call the school at 783-3021. We look forward to a wonderful year of learning! RICH VALLEY ELEMENTARY Registration for kindergarten and other new students coming to Rich Valley Elementary School should be completed prior to the opening of school on Thursday, August 16, 2012. When parents register their child, they should bring their child's birth certificate, physical examination report, and immunization record. Any parent or guardian who needs information regarding registration may call the school at 624-3314. All students and parents are invited to attend a Back to School open house on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Room assignments will be posted at this time. Students and parents may visit classrooms, meet the teachers, and find out the school supplies the child will need for the school year. Rich Valley Elementary School hours will remain the same as last year. Any students arriving before 8:20 are to report to the cafeteria. At 8:20 the students will go to their classroom and the tardy bell will ring at 8:30. Anyone arriving after 8:30 will be considered tardy. The end of school day bell will ring at 3:15. Students riding first bell buses will be released at that time. The bell for parent pick-up and bus duty students will ring at 3:18. SALTVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL All students and parents are invited to a Back-To- School Open House on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This will be a good time for parents and students to visit classrooms and meet their teacher. The PTO will have an information table in the gymnasium to provide information and assistance. Parents of pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and new students should bring their child s birth certificate, immunization record, and health examination record, if they have not already done so. These items are required for a child to attend school. Classroom assignments will be posted at the open house.

SUGAR GROVE SCHOOL Parents of all children grades PK-8 attending Sugar Grove School are invited to a Meet the Teacher Night on Monday, August 13, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. School will begin Thursday August 16, 2012, at 8:20 a.m. Applicable fees may be paid at this time. Classroom assignments will be posted on the main bulletin board on Monday, August 13, 2012. CHILHOWIE MIDDLE SCHOOL Chilhowie Middle School students will report to school and pay fees on opening day, Thursday, August 16, 2012. Those students who are new to the Chilhowie area should come to the school prior to August 16th to register and arrange their schedules for the school year. The school office will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. each weekday before school opens. An open house for students and their parents is scheduled for Monday, August 13, 2012, from 4:30 p.m. 6:30 p.m. An orientation for rising 6 th grade students will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the gym. MARION MIDDLE SCHOOL Registering, accepting fees, and disseminating schedules will be conducted on Monday, August 13, 2012 and Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Student TA lists will be posted on the main MMS entry doors on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. Orientation and Open House has been scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in the MMS Auditorium. Rising sixth grade students will meet at 6:00 p.m. and rising seventh and eighth grade students will meet at 7:30 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to meet teachers and learn what their child will need for the school year. At the conclusion of the orientation programs, parents will be provided an additional opportunity to handle fees and receive schedules. Parents of students new to Smyth County are urged to register their children as soon as possible. School for the 2012-2013 school year will begin on Thursday, August 16, 2012. NORTHWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL The faculty and staff of Northwood Middle School are excited to host a Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 14 th, 2012. Teachers will be in their rooms to welcome students and parents between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Rising sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students and parents will meet in the auditorium to discuss policies and procedures at 4:45 p.m. Students first period teacher will be posted on the window of the main lobby. When meeting with the first period teacher, students will be presented with their schedule and a list of school fees. Fees will be based on the exploratory classes the student will be taking. Locks may be purchased for $6.00 and locker rental fee will be $1.00. Only

school purchased locks may be used. Breakfast/lunch accounts may be established as well. All fees and orders will be processed in the cafeteria. CHILHOWIE HIGH SCHOOL Back-to-School Open House will be held on Monday, August 13 th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. This is an excellent time to pick up schedules and to meet teachers. Schedules will be available for students to pick up beginning Monday, August 6 th from 9:00 3:00 p.m. in the guidance office. Students that will be in the 9 th grade and new to Chilhowie High School will have a short orientation in the auditorium from 5:00-5:30 p.m. Transfer students new to the system should come to the school prior to August 8 th to arrange their schedule for the 2012-2013 school year. The office will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each weekday before school opens. The VHSL fall sports rules meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. in the auditorium on Monday, August 13 th. All fall sports athletes and at least one parent are required to attend. A locker fee of $5.00 will be paid during homeroom period on August 16 th. All other fees will be paid in individual classes. For other information, parents may call the school at 276-646-8966. MARION SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Marion Senior High School students should report to their homerooms on Wednesday, August 16, 2012 at 8:25 am. Student s schedules may be picked up in the Guidance Department beginning Friday, August 3, 2012 between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Schedule changes need to be made on the following days: Seniors, August 6; Juniors, August 7; Sophomores, August 8; and Freshmen, August 13. Any student may make final changes on August 14. All schedule changes or conflicts are to be completed by Tuesday, August 14. An open house is scheduled for all students and parents on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm. Freshmen orientation will begin at 6:30 pm in the High School Auditorium. Students and parents will be given an opportunity to meet teachers and be made aware of course requirements and supplies needed. Students will need to pay a $5.00 locker rental fee to their homeroom teacher on the first day of school. All other fees will be paid in specific classes where fees are applicable. NORTHWOOD HIGH SCHOOL Northwood High School students and their parents are invited to attend the annual Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Freshmen orientation will begin at 6:30 p.m. This will provide incoming freshman, and their parents, an opportunity to receive information regarding NHS policies. At 7:00 p.m., all NHS students and parents will be able to meet the teachers during an abbreviated daily schedule. At this time the teacher will be available to provide information about their classes. There will be NO schedule changes during back-to-school night.

Any student with questions regarding scheduling should meet with Mrs. Comer in the guidance office on August 13 th between the hours of 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Students will be able to pick up a copy of their schedules beginning August 6, 2012. Schedule changes should not be made after school starts on August 16, 2012. A locker fee of $5.00 should be paid to the homeroom teacher on the first day of school. Other fees should be paid in the respective classes of which they are requested. A Senior Parking Fee of $20 per year is available for parking on the upper lever lot of the school area on a first come-first served basis. SMYTH CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER The faculty and staff of the Smyth Career and Technology Center will welcome new and returning students and their parents on Tuesday evening, August 14, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Prospective students and their parents are welcome to tour the center and meet with instructors. Lab fees may also be paid at this time.
