October 1 2, 2016 Dear friends, Our Challenge In this Sunday s Old Testament reading, the prophet Habakkuk cried out to God for deliverance from a future filled with destruction and violence, misery and discord. The Lord heard Habakkuk s prayer, but did not promise an easier time of it. Instead he promised to be with him through every toil and snare. The Apostle Paul wrote Timothy a letter to encourage him to keep the faith, what ever befell him. He reminded Timothy that the Spirit of God is no cowardly spirit, but rather one that makes us strong and wise when life does not go our way. The Christian faith never promises us an easy life. In fact, those who do their Christian duty are likely to have more burdens to carry than those who shirk their responsibilities before God! Jesus set the example of what it means to be a Christian by taking the world s sin and death on his own shoulders. I think optimism is apparently a built-in human trait. No matter how difficult life becomes, we usually believe that things will get better, and we look for easier ways. There is a certain survival value in this optimism. We need to realize, however, that sometimes things get harder rather than easier in life, and that often this is ultimately for our own good. William Shakespeare wrote in The Merchant of Venice: I can easier teach twenty what is good to be done, than be one of the twenty to follow mine own teaching. It s been said that the only easy life is the life that s all talk and no walk. When you live your faith, you can forget about having an easy time of it. Have a good week! Love and Prayers, Father Randy Children s Church is a new ministry offered to all children in grades Pre-K through 2nd. Available at most 9 a.m. and 11a.m. masses, children are given the opportunity to hear the Liturgy of the Word on an age appropriate level. Children will be invited after the Opening Blessing to leave the church with the catechists and will return just before the Offertory. If you re interested in helping with Children s Church, please sign up online via the Parish s Ministry Sign Up http://church.aloysius.org/forms/ ministrysignup or by emailing Ann Michael Lagarde annmichael@peterswealth.com or Kayla Lundin kaylalundin@gmail.com. Stewardship of Ministry Renewal-Time and Talent Stewardship is Faith in Action! It is not too late to sign up for a ministry this year! In fact, our system online allows sign-ups all year long and each chair receives an email notification when you sign up for a particular ministry. Our current ministry handbook and online sign up forms are online at www.aloysius.org. Please spend some time reading it and discerning which ministries God is calling you to in the current year. Many possibilities are available to you to put your Faith into Action through your time and talent. Then sign up online or complete a paper form and return it to the Parish office. Each family member age 10 and over is encouraged to complete a form, preferably online. Everyone should complete a new form each year since our system does not allow us to carry over names from prior years. If you have any questions, please contact the chair listed online or call the Parish office and we can help you with your sign up. Thank you for listening to God s call to serve. To help strengthen marriages in our community, St. Aloysius will host a married couple s retreat on Saturday, October 29th from 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The retreat will offer both inspiration and practical help. The inspiration will flow from a Catholic vision of marriage that allows couples to discover a deeper meaning to their relationship. The practical help will consist of some important relationship skills that scientific research has proven to make marriages last. Darryl Ducote, LCSW, will lead the retreat. The fee is $30 per couple which covers the cost of workbooks and lunch. Scholarships are available through the parish office. The deadline for registration is October 21st. If you have any questions, contact Sonny Chastain at 572-9178 or chasjrc1@gmail.com. We hope you will join us. October 2, 2016 5 27th Sunday of Ordinary
