DEMO DAY Cohort Two Nurture

Our Mission Our aim is to help establish and develop businesses that contribute towards solving the challenges of energy use and urban mobility in Exeter, and around the globe. Our Values Sustainability for local, global, physical, energy and financial resources Efficiency optimising our time and resources to deliver the best impact Respect for one another, for our work, for our local and global environments Impact making a positive difference to the world we live and work in

About Exeter Velocities Exeter Velocities is a start-up accelerator offering support and funding for entrepreneurs with ideas to improve mobility and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. It does this through three programmes that focus on supporting the development of a start-up as it moves from idea to impact Nurture, Advance, and Immersion. Each year, we aim to help up to 30 start-ups who are developing innovative solutions to the way we travel and power our lives for the better. By providing these businesses with advice, mentoring and funding, we aim to generate positive social impact for Exeter and its surrounding areas. Exeter has specific challenges with transport and air quality which are common to major conurbations around the globe. By working with the City of Exeter, our start-ups can access a real-word testbed for ideas and solutions, and measure their positive impact. Nurture Advance Immersion Cohort Two: Day One Workshop: getting the most out of nurture 1

Exeter City Futures and Innovation Exeter Velocities is an innovation programme of Exeter City Futures. It is supporting new commercial and social enterprises to develop exciting products and services that work for Exeter and its residents, as our city moves towards its ambitious vision of being energy independent and congestion free. Exeter City Futures is an independent Community Interest Company that is working to help Exeter to solve its urbanisation challenges in a way that reduces social inequality and contributes to economic growth. Energy Independent & Congestion Free By changing the way local government, private sector and communities work together Exeter City Futures aims to solve Exeter s challenges. With a data-driven focus on defining problems and creating measurable results, it provides the City with expert technical assistance and proven resources to drive local change. Impact so far Exeter Velocities is already making a real impact on our City by providing solutions and supporting the innovations that will make Exeter a more sustainable city, and help Exeter City Futures realise its ambitious vision. 9 Ventures Supported 4 Start-ups operating in Exeter 3 New business and jobs created 45 Training hours provided 16 Individual participating founders 17 Participants 2

Case Study - Binit Binit joined the Exeter Velocities inaugural cohort and is now part of our Advance programme. They believe in a world without waste where everything is a resource and where people, companies and their customers are empowered to make good decisions about what to do with the things they no longer need. Binit is developing a platform for businesses to access hassle-free, better-value waste and recycling services. Behind the scenes they want to bring the waste and recycling collections in a local area together, with the aim of reducing vehicle movements and cleaning up the litter. Binit believes they can offer a service that is better for a local area because it uses vehicles more efficiently. And because they understand local problems, like seagulls ripping open waste bags, they can help local businesses work together to get rid of these problems. Binit Founder: Philippa Roberts Website: binituk.com Contact: philippa@binituk.com With Binit we spotted a start-up committed to transforming waste collection services while, at the same time, seeking to increase the day to day quality of life for the citizens of Exeter. It s this transformation which has been at the core of activity from Philippa and her team, activity which Exeter City Futures has been proud to support. - Liz, Exeter City Futures 3 Programme Director Philippa & Eleanor

A shift to a new energy generation is changing our environment and we are in danger of creating uninspiring clone spaces where people feel alienated. Art and Energy was founded by Chloe Uden and Naomi Wright who are experts transforming the look of solar panel energy generation through art in order to brighten up our communities, celebrate our diverse cultures and inspire others to consider renewable energy. Art and Energy want Exeter to have beautiful green technology generating energy in a way that represents the unique culture of the place. This is a complex change and they plan to do this through: Working with partners to research and understand the capabilities and aesthetic versatility of solar PV technology Piloting installations Developing and providing learning programmes for artists and designers to help them use solar PV as an arts material Art & Energy Founder: Chloe Uden Website: artandenergy.org Contact: chloe@artandenergy.org Naomi & Chloe 6

Black Dog Rides Founder: Toby Oakes Twitter: @dhtoby cycling to improve physical and mental wellbeing Contact: dhtoby@gmail.com The number of people suffering with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety has grown over the last few years. This rise has lead to questions both around on-going treatment and support. Founded in 2017 by Toby Oakes, Black Dog Rides is a Social Enterprise focused on working with people who are suffering from mental health issues through the provision of bicycle rides and outdoor activity. This seeks to help users maintain their physical and mental well being, as well as engage them within a supportive community. Leading mental health Charity Mind UK recognises outdoor activity as one of the key ways of supporting mental, physical and emotional well-being. 7

Biklio is an app-platform that connects bicycle users to rewards offered by local businesses. Their mission is to reduce car congestion, air pollution and improve citizen s health and happiness by creating a business community that encourages people to cycle. Founders: João Bernardino, Matheus Oliveira, Hugo Serodio Website: www.biklio.com Contact: biklio@biklio.com The Bikilio app provides a loyalty scheme that rewards people who cycle with benefits at partner stores like discounts, a free drink, or a free scoop of ice cream while creating more loyal customers for local businesses and helping people reduce their carbon footprint.
