Key messages The role of science parks as a tool of the triple helix approach : Science parks have a special territorial anchorage They represent a key stake for our regions, in terms of attractivity for innovating enterprises willing to set up or coming in the region, but also in terms of visibility for our territories
Key messages Important for ERRIN and our Regions to take also on board clusters and poles de compétitivité as structures contributing to the regional innovation eco-systems Similar bodies to the science parks, in terms of objectives But some clusters are set up on wider and more flexible territories than science parks Both types of structures contribute to open innovation with the idea of breaking the walls and erasing the frontiers between public and private actors shared facilities can encourage knowledge sharing and potential niche activities (see smart specialization) with a common objective of developing innovation and raising transfer of technology
Key messages The question of the International / European dimension of these 2 types of bodies as part of their contribution to the EU competitiveness ERRIN is pleading for a true European policy for clusters and science parks, giving them concrete means for European cooperation both on a horizontal and vertical ways. There is a lack of specific tools at the EU level for such a cooperation. ERRIN has been disappointed that the ROK initiative, which had proved its efficiency, is no longer present within Horizon 2020 program. A final proposal to work more closely between JRC and ERRIN on science parks and clusters, and especially in the field of Smart cities, communities and regions working group.
