2019 What is Olathe s Got Talent? Olathe s Got Talent is a program for talented Olathe youth organized by Olathe Noon Optimists in support of Arts in Education, in conjunction with the Bell Cultural Arts Event Center at MidAmerica Nazarene University. Individuals and businesses sponsor this opportunity for youth to perform independently in a local talent competition showcasing dance, vocal and instrumental music, theatre performances, visual art, and videos. Funds raised support scholarships, supplemental educational materials for selected programs in Olathe Public Schools, Miracle League Team Sponsorships and School and Community Youth Projects supported by the Olathe Noon Optimists. Who is eligible to compete? Public, private or home school students, ages 7 to 19, who reside within the Olathe Public School District boundaries may apply to perform individually or in groups. The Visual Arts and Video competitions are for Olathe Public School District high school juniors and seniors only. Students may only compete in one category but are no longer eligible if they are prior Olathe s Got Talent scholarship winners. How do students apply? Solo or Group Performances: Vocal Dance Instrumental Theatre (drama, comedy, puppetry, magic, karate, etc) Application fee (non-refundable) Individual: $10 Groups of 2-5: $15 Groups of 6-10: $25 Groups of more than 10: $50 Performing Arts: Deadline to apply is February 11, 2019 (See form on page 6) Auditions Auditions will be held on Thursday, February 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, February 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. Auditions will be held at the Olathe Community Center 1205 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS 66061 Contestants must be present to audition at their scheduled times or be disqualified. Performance auditions are limited to four (4) minutes including stage entry and exit. Judges may shorten an audition at their discretion as needed to accommodate all entrants. Submit your art! Visual Arts Competition: The Visual Arts components is for Olathe high school juniors and seniors only. Artists must submit entry form and $10 entry fee along with an Artist Statement of their work and approval from their instructors for their submissions. Deadline for submission of the application, Statement and fee is March 1, 2019. A maximum of ten entries will be accepted from each of the five high schools in the Olathe district. Application fees are non-refundable. Performance - Saturday March 23, arrive by 6:30 pm Video Competition: Olathe high school juniors and seniors studying e-communications or Video may submit a short-film (7 minutes max.) They must submit an entry form, $10 entry fee, the genre and theme selected along with their Film Treatment statement. Statement and instructor approval by March 1, 2019. Students should submit their entry by posting the film to YouTube and emailing the URL to olathenoontalent@sbcglobal.net along with a copy of their application, including their name, their school, and note with instructor approval. A maximum of ten entries will be accepted from each of the five Olathe district high schools. -4-
Performance, Visual Arts, & Video Awards: More than $7,500 in scholarships may be awarded to individuals or groups by a panel of qualified Judges for vocal, instrumental, dance or theatre performances, visual arts and video. The audience will also have the opportunity to purchase votes for their favorite performances. The Fan Favorite will receive a plaque and a $250 cash prize. The Olathe Noon Optimists want to ensure that funds provided by our businesses and community are easily accessed by scholarship winners to be applied towards their post-secondary education. Graduating seniors who submit proof of enrollment at a postsecondary institution, along with the address of that school s Financial Aid Office will have their scholarships sent directly to their school. All other scholarships will be placed in an interest-bearing Learning Quest 529 Educational account with parent approval. Parents control the disbursement of those funds when the student enrolls in a postsecondary institution. (2-year, 4-year or technical school). All awards are at the Judges discretion and are final. Special Scholarship Opportunities MidAmerica Nazarene and Johnson County Community College each offer a $1,000 scholarship opportunity to students who are in the show and who have indicated an interest in attending their schools. They may be selected by a representative of the school or the Judges, and are not necessarily based on talent, but may be offered as an opportunity for students to pursue academics beyond high school at their institution. They are available to Seniors only. If a student has a desire to attend either institution, they should make that interest known on their application for consideration.
