Peter J. Giannopoulos Memorial Scholarship Peter graduated from Fremd in June 2000, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves because he believed the military would sharpen virtues that could not be taught in a classroom, such as honor, commitment, courage, valor and comradery. Peter was killed in action in Latifiyah, Iraq on November 11, 2004 after exposing himself to enemy fire to help protect his unit during an ambush.
