President Vice President Treasurer Secretary Social Chair Outreach Chair Academic Chair Forecasting Webmaster Historian Past President Cy s Eyes on the Skies Sophomore Chair Costume Contest Meeting start: 7:05pm Number in attendance: 40 ISU AMS Meeting Minutes 10/30/12 We started off the meeting with a presentation by Andrew Gall, a representative from GSB, who wanted our opinion on several issues currently being discussed within GSB. He also wanted to better understand our club as a whole and what we do. President- Josh Alland - As everyone should remember, we won student chapter of the year. Congratulations to everyone that helped make that happen! - LAS Council o We received $600 from LAS Council as part of our annual allocation o Some will be going toward national AMS conference funding and some will be going to other aspects of the club - AMS mobile home project o Committee meetings have started o We will be in contact with Iowa and Minnesota senators in an attempt to see what policies can be made regarding the issue of severe weather readiness in mobile home parks - National AMS conference o Please try to register online by November 16 th! o More detailed information can be found on the sheet that was handed out during the meeting, or talk to Sarah Stewart

- Yankee Candles o Everyone should have received an email from Josh with a link to an online form that can be used to sell to people via email o Please try to sell at least two of the jar candles, or an equivalent amount of other items o The candles should be coming in before Christmas break and can be picked up through Josh o The order forms need to be turned in to Josh by Tuesday, November 13 th - Pizza sales o If you are planning on helping out, you must be food safety certified This easy quiz can be done online Pick up the certification card in the MU o Free pizza if you help out! Vice President- Kristy Carter - If you ordered clothing, see Kristy ASAP! - Bufkit/GR tutorial o Tutorial will be on Thursday, November 1 st at 7pm o Both are great forecasting tools - National AMS T-shirt contest o Submissions are due by Friday, November 9 th o Try to get them in to Kristy by Wednesday, November 7 th - StormReady o There are quite a few schools in Iowa that are not StormReady o We will be sending out letters and emails to schools to push them to become StormReady o Watch for updates on this Treasurer- Wes Rondinelli - Current balance: $2430 - Make sure to turn in any missing money or receipts to Wes - Panda Express and Buffalo Wild Wings fundraisers are coming up, watch for updates - If you have not paid your dues/intramural fees please get those in ASAP! Secretary- Sean Stelten - Miss a meeting? Read the minutes! They re jolly! - Sell calendars! o $12 each, $14 if you would like them shipped o Kristy is currently winning with 6, so sell sell sell!!! o They make great Christmas presents Social Chair- Justin Keller - New intramurals o Indoor soccer o Floor hockey - Scary movie night o Will be at 8pm on Halloween in 3140 Agronomy

- KCCI tour o Moved to Monday, November 5 th o Meet in Agronomy parking lot at 6pm Outreach Chair- Tristan Morath - Boone kids club o We will be giving a presentation about winter and severe weather o Saturday, November 3 rd - Boy Scouts Weather Merit Badge o Saturday, November 10 th o We will be teaching them about several aspects of meteorology, have them tour Cy s Eyes, and take part in many other weather related activities - Winter weatherization o Saturday, November 10 th o We will be sealing windows and doing other weatherization tasks for those that are unable to do so themselves - MU calendar sales o The date we had proposed ended up not working out, so Tristan is currently working on setting up new dates - Hy-Vee calendar sales o We will be shooting for Friday, November 30 th and Saturday, December 1 st for dates - Send epic weather photos to Tristan! Academic Chair- Kyle Knipper - Study sessions o Going pretty well o There is a Calc 3 exam next week - Scholarships o NWA scholarships were due in on October 25 th o Hollings Scholarship Deadline is in January Now would be a good time to start getting letters of recommendation from professors o Pam Daale scholarship The application is not currently online, however it should be up near the beginning of next semester The award is presented during the Severe Storms and Doppler Radar Conference in April - REUs o Start looking for ones you might be interested in o Talk to advisors/faculty members if you can t find any that interest you - Department recruitment video o We will be doing most of the work for this during spring semester o If you have any ideas, let Kyle or Kristy know

Forecasting- Kristy Carter - No one has won the snowfall forecast contest yet - WxChallenge o Going pretty well so far o The next city has changed slightly, so watch out for that o According to the coordinators of WxChallenge, Hurricane Sandy is NOT a good reason to miss a forecast, so if the northeast can t miss a forecast then that means you can t either - ISD o Winner this period was Kristy s team, good job! o Don t forget to forecast! Webmaster- Matt Lauridsen - Sign up for the forums if you haven t already - The scholarship and internship page has been updated o If you are applying for a scholarship, find someone that has either won or applied for the same scholarship and have them read your essays or look over your application o Kristy likes reading essays, so contact her! - Like the Facebook page! Historian- Katie Voitik - AMS conference poster o We will be forming a committee to help build this year s poster o The abstract is due by November 19 th, and the poster is due at the conference in January - Alumni of the month o Sam Tushaus - Picture of the month:

- Picture contest with Puerto Rico o We will be sending the Puerto Rican chapter some of our weather photos where they will be voting on some of the best ones, and we will do the same for them o Send Katie or Tristan your cool weather pictures - Birthdays o Two professor birthdays are coming up and we want to have the entire AMS sign cards for them o The professors are Dr. Wu and Dr. Iverson Past President- Rob Nelson - Hy-Vee bag program is moving along smoothly Cy s Eyes on the Skies- Sam Schreier and Justin Keller - Like the Facebook page and follow Cy s Eyes on Twitter - Participation o Overall has been pretty good, however we need more freshmen!! - T-shirts o The shirts have been approved and ordered, so they should be in soon o The shirts are now red in order to stay within the budget - The shows have been running pretty smoothly as of late Sophomore Chair- Erin Jackson - Freshman of the month o Andy Mabis - Freshman/Sophomore social o We had low participation the first time around, so we will be trying it again at a later date - Assassins o Rules will be sent out via email o The game will be starting soon, so watch for that Costume Contest - Out of the many contestants, the finalists were: o Kayla Schuster/ Apollo the bunny (Bee/Pumpkin) o Zach Perez (Leaf blower) o Jerry Stoss (Jackie Moon) o Wes Rondinelli (Buddy the Elf) - The winner was Kayla and Apollo, congratulations! - They won a gift card to the business of their (well, Kayla s) choice Meeting end: 8:15pm
