POSITION DESCRIPTION Position details: Title: Reports to: Reports Professionally to: Date: Nurse Specialist Interventional Radiology (IR) Charge Nurse Charge Nurse March 2019 Purpose of position: The Nurse Specialist (IR) is an advanced nursing practice role and is responsible for providing specialist nursing care and/or co ordination of care to a specific patient/client population across health care settings. Service Description Population All Patients referred to radiology requiring specific neuro and other radiology diagnostic and interventional procedures Advanced nursing specialty practice Interventional Radiology (IR). The NS will support the patient journey within IR providing specialist knowledge and expertise. The primary focus will be within Interventional Neuro Radiology (INR). Scope and Setting Leads quality clinical care in the hospital setting. Ensures consistent quality of care delivery and patient outcomes are favourable. The right care delivered by the right person at the right time. Is responsible for ensuring radiology nurses are proficient in the provision of neuro and other interventional radiology nursing support. Integration and collaboration with other teams service or providers The role will work collaboratively with the wider health care team locally and will network with like services nationally.

Maintains skills and peripheral/interventional knowledge to contribute to the on-call nursing roster as required. Anticipated outcomes of care Contributes to the development, evaluation and audit of a credentialing program for all nurses. Facilitates effective discharge planning and/or referral processes to health care providers and support agencies to meet identified health needs. Identifies barriers and solutions to access for patient / client, family or whanau. Accurately documents assessments of patients / clients health status, diagnosis and decisions made regarding interventions and referrals or follow-up. Participates in case review and debriefing activities as required. Leads the implementation of nursing practice and models of care appropriate to patient needs Provide clinical leadership to the multi-disciplinary team, developing services and monitoring standards of care. Establishing and role modelling standards of practice/protocols/policies. Management of unpredictable/emergency situations efficiently and effectively Supports the development of nursing staff in all areas of nursing assessment, clinical examination and planning, implementing and evaluating care. Education and clinical teaching Demonstrates skilled mentoring / coaching, teaching and supervision of nursing staff and other health professionals. Acts as a nursing resource providing expert advice and education to nursing staff and other health care professionals / family / whanau within scope of speciality practice. Identifies and supports staff education and professional development based on knowledge of service needs and aligned with ADHB strategic direction.

Person specifications: Education and Qualifications Essential New Zealand nursing registration, RGON, RN, BHSc ( Nursing) Postgraduate certificate / diploma in specialty nursing practice/or working towards Working towards completion of Masters Degree.
