We Have a World of Experience Heartlands is an 8(a) Native American, woman owned company and a LSDBE with the District of Columbia. 1

a World of Change Heartlands is expert at behavior change. We have experience in changing behavior one person, organization and community at a time. Social scientists have years of experience in the study of cultural change. Heartlands applies that expertise to practical problems that involve behavioral change. Whether it s becoming more democratic, preventing conflict, adopting healthier behavior, or creating a dynamic economy, the principles are similar. Heartlands uses rapid assessment methods to analyze a situation, assess resistance to change, and design a holistic approach. Our methodology has proven effective for large and small challenges in an office, in a community, or in a country. 2

a World of Expertise Project & Program Management Heartlands has experience and state-of-the-art management systems that enable us to manage large contracts from the U.S. Government or private sector firms. We are subcontractors on several USAID projects. We also provide training, coaching, and consulting in program management to others. Program Monitoring & Evaluation We have carried out evaluations of over 50 projects funded by USAID, The World Bank, and the United Nations. We can design management information systems, track programs, and prepare reports. We select methods for doing process or impact evaluations that are appropriate to the client. Training, Facilitating, & Managing Events We have designed and facilitated over 200 workshops and conferences ranging from small planning sessions to multinational meetings in over 50 countries and the U.S. We also have designed all types of training materials including the use of electronic media. We have written manuals on the evaluation of small business programs, community eye care, procurement, and partnerships between business and nonprofits. If you have problems with gender or cultural sensitivity, Heartlands has the solutions. Capacity Building In all that we do, we aim to leave behind a strengthened local capacity to design, manage, and evaluate without outside assistance. We build capacity through thoughtful assessments of strengths and weaknesses, and use training, coaching, mentoring and exchanges to build leadership and put programs in the hands of those closest to the target groups. 3
