The Izaak Walton League gun show at the Bel Air armory was a decided success! There was a steady flow of people going through to check out the displays and we raised $2475 in rifle raffle sales, which is excellent! This is by far the best rifle raffle we have had yet! Members also had the opportunity to speak to several Marines in the area and hopefully we ll gain a few new members from this event. The Mid-Winter National Conference is coming up on the 3-5 th of March. The Kennel growl will be on Friday evening the 4 th and I encourage all Devil Dogs to take the short drive down to Falls Church to attend. This is the only Kennel growl where dogs of all ranks are permitted to attend. It is a lot of fun and you can get to know other Devil Dogs from around the Nation! I would also like to see members attend the business meetings on Friday and Saturday so that they can see how things are going for the League on a National level. The next Department meeting will be held on March the 12 th at the Choptank Detachment. The Department meetings are open to ALL League members and are the best way to see what is going on with the League state-wide. They can run long, but the information you gain from it is always important. Members usually car-pool to the Department meetings so you can always find a way there. I hope you consider attending. I would also like to see members attend the Department Convention in Ocean City. It is the 28 th 30 th of April at the Princess Royale. We will need to gather Delegate s names at the Detachment meeting so we can get the forms sent in. Go to www.deptofmdmcl.org for fillable forms, which makes it easier for the Convention Chairman (me!) to read the information. If you are a delegate, the Detachment will register you but you will still need to register any guests that attend with you. If you are unable to stay for the entire convention, keep in mind that Ocean City is only a few hours away and a day trip can be planned if you would like to just attend the Devil Dog growl on Friday or the business meeting on Saturday. This is always a nice get away for family members as well! We are still light on Detachment activities, but will be picking up the pace again once the convention is over and summer time hits! Please make plans to attend at least one event a month and we will have plenty of members to fill in the blanks! Page Page 2 2 The LASHUP Comments from the Sr. Vice Commandant We had a great 2015. A lot was accomplished as we continued our mission. The future in 2016 looks bright. We will continue to get out in the community and spread the word about our Marine Corps League. Our membership continues to hover right under the 100 member mark. This is the year we get (and stay) over the 100 member mark. I challenge every member to redouble their efforts to locate a new member. Remember we do more than just have one meeting a month. Our programs need volunteer support. That next great volunteer is just one question away Hey Marine, have you heard of the Marine Corps League. Don t forget to keep some of our recruiting business cards handy to pass out. Invite them to a meeting or event as your guest. It will soon be time to nominate Officers for the 2016-2017 Year. Our current Junior Vice Commandant is not seeking re-election. This is a great opportunity for a member to step forward and become part of our Detachment Leadership Team. If you are wary of stepping into a leadership role, there is plenty of training and mentoring available. The National Professional Development Program can be viewed online or downloaded to your personal computing device. The Dept of Maryland Leadership College is scheduled for 7 May 2016. For more info on each of these programs visit the Dept website at http://deptofmdmcl.org/profdev/ default.htm The position for Detachment Adjutant We have mentioned this at previous meetings, but ALL of our Members and Associates are welcome to attend any MCL meeting. The Department of Maryland holds three Meetings a year (plus a Convention). There is a National Convention each August which rotates around the country each year. There is also the National Mid-Winter Conference in Falls Church, Virginia coming up 3-5 March 2016. We are geographically close to Falls Church so it s a great opportunity to hear from the MCL Leadership, various National Committees and numerous USMC Leaders. If you want to attend Mid-Winter you must register yourself. See the Semper Fi Magazine for a Pre-Registration Form. Friday & Saturday are the MCL Meeting s and they are open to all members/associates. Ask me, Don Benson or Commandant Evie Remines for more info. Member input is very important to us. Do you have an idea or program you think the Detachment should get involved with? Let us know! Looking forward highly motivating 2016! Yut, Yut! Semper Fi. Craig Reeling Sr. Vice Commandant Comments from the Jr. Vice Commandant Greetings Marines, I'm writing this just before the historic blizzard starts. I hope everyone is prepared as best they can as befitting a marine. Keep you and your families safe. I hope to see you soon at our meetings. See you on Feb. 23 rd at 1900 hrs Semper Fi, Dan Narango Jr. Vice Commandant

Detachment 1198 Page 9 Cell Phones for Soldiers We have supported our deployed troops by collecting 110 phones in the past month. To date that is over 2471 cell phones. These phones are sent to a collection point and exchanged for telephone calling cards which are sent to troops overseas. This enables them to call family and friends at no cost to them. If you have collected any phone donations, please be sure to bring them to the next business meeting. Art Romain, Bel Air Gun Show February 5-7, 2016
