An Evaluation of Juvenile Innovations in Duval County, Florida Florida State University The Program for At-risk Students may have averted as many as 1,5 property crimes between 1993 and 1995. A conservative estimate of the gross public benefit of this reduced level of property crime is valued at about $6 million a year or $21, per offender. Over 7,2 robberies, burglaries, and motor vehicle thefts were prevented by incarcerating habitual offenders between 1992 and 1995. Since some violent crimes were also averted, this is a conservative estimate of the program s impact on public safety.
Aggressive Prosecution Since 1991 we have filed over 2,8 juvenile cases in adult court. The overwhelming majority of these juveniles were incarcerated in adult facilities. Intervention The State Attorney s Office has been awarded over EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS in grants to implement creative juvenile intervention and diversion programs designed to prevent future criminal behavior.
