MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE TYLER COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION June 5, 2017 The regular meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Tyler County Board of Education. Board members present were: President PJ Wells, Vice President Bonnie Henthorn, Scott Strode, Linda Hoover and Jimmy Wyatt. Superintendent Robin Daquilante was also present. Others present were Patricia Feldmeier, Principal at AIB; Suzette Miller, Principal at TCMS; Kent Yoho, Principal at TCHS; Krista DeVaugn, Principal at SES; Stacey Roberts, Executive Secretary; Chad Mason, Ralph Haught, David Bennett, Debra Bennett, Kris Hinrichs, Robert Leasure, Colleen Griffith, Joe Griffith, Anna Griffith, Jesse Griffith, Nancy Seckman, Corinne Allen, Karly Allen, Dakota Allen, Debbie Leasure, Dianne Cunningham, Grace Grover, Jan Kirk, Bill Kirk, Steve Eastham, Jenny Eastham, Randy Laugh, Mike Wolf, Tomela Paden, Amy Yost, Mr. Yost, Cindy DiLuca, Paolo DiLuca and Becky Burnside. On a motion made by Jimmy Wyatt, seconded by Bonnie Henthorn with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved minutes of the May 15, 2017 Regular Meeting. The following employees were honored at this meeting: 1. Cynthia DiLuca, SES Teacher of the Year 2. Amy Yost, AIB Teacher of the Year 3. Tomela Paden, TCMS Teacher of the Year, and Tyler County Teacher of the Year 4. Randy Laugh, Tyler County Service Employee of the Year The following 2017 retirees were presented with a certificate and a life time pass to Tyler Consolidated athletic events: Andrea Akers, David Bennett, Dianne Cunningham, Stephen Eastham, Joseph Griffith, Ralph Haught, Kristin Hinrichs, Jan Kirk, Robert Leasure, Nancy Seckman, Mike Wolf and Charles Young. Others not present were Duane Dober, Cyndi Jones, Dawn Knowlton, Sherry Perkey, Janet Wells and Charles T. White, Jr. Chad Mason, representing the TCHS Athletic Boosters, approached the Board concerning the athletic booth at the Tyler County Fair. He informed them that running the booth was no longer cost effective. He presented two options as a solution. They can either sell the booth or move it to the away side of the TCHS football field to help with the overflow of the lines at the main concession stand. These options are being further investigated. On a motion made by Scott Strode, seconded by Linda Hoover with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the bid for Kelly Paving to do the asphalt at AIB. Ms. Daquilante informed the Board concerning the following: 1. FCCLA funding 2. The WVSBA link to the evaluation 3. The upcoming training at Bridgeport. Ms. Daquilante also informed the Board that she has a conference on June 19, 2017 and requested that the Regular Board meeting be moved to June 26, 2017. All were in agreement to reschedule the meeting. On a motion made by Linda Hoover, seconded by Scott Strode with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following athletic schedules: 1. Tyler Consolidated High School Girls Basketball 2017-18. 2. Tyler Consolidated High School Golf 2017-18. On a motion made by Bonnie Henthorn, seconded by Jimmy Wyatt with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following trip requests: a. Ashley Moore requests permission to take approximately seven middle school TSA students to attend the TSA National Conference in Orlando, Florida beginning June 21 st through June 25 th. If permitted, they will return to TCMS on June 26 th. They will travel by charter bus. b. Debbie Miller requests permission to take the fifth-grade students at Arthur I. Boreman Elementary School to the Blue and Gray Days in St. Marys, WV on September 1, 2017. She is also requesting bus transportation. c. Joe Griffith requests permission for golf players to be permitted to attend a Rules Clinic and various locations of the LKC and Regional Tournaments for practice with himself and Mr. Tucker. On a motion made by Linda Hoover, seconded by Jimmy Wyatt with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following requests: a. Suzette Miller requests that Charles Matt Moore be approved as the male chaperone for the TSA National Conference June 20 th through June 26 th. b. Shannon Huffman requests permission for the 17 and under Knights baseball team to use the TCHS baseball field and concession area for their summer league games. Each student will pay a participation fee of $50.00 to pay for expenses. The organization will be completely responsible for clean-up. Rob Jones has agreed to over-see this event. c. Jennifer Negie and Katrina Byers request permission to use the property beside the old Tyler High School parking lot to place a portable Little Pantry box for the community to provide necessities for those in need.
d. Joe Griffith requests permission for the following drivers to transport the Tyler Consolidated Middle and High School golf teams for the upcoming season: Tracy Summers, Kelli Potoczny, JoAnn Seckman, Coach David Tucker and Coach Joe Griffith. e. Joe Griffith requests permission to hold the annual Junior Golf Camp at Sistersville Country Club from 6:00 p.m. until about 8:30 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, June 12-14, 2017. The camp will be for students entering grades 3-8, both boys and girls. f. Barbara Vincent requests permission for the West Virginia Oil and Gas Festival to us the cafeteria, gym, music room and restrooms at Sistersville Elementary School on July 15, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. for the Oil and Gas Festival Queen s Pageant. Krista DeVaughn has agreed to oversee this event. The rental fee is $50.00 plus the custodian fees during the event. g. Stefanie Suter requests permission for maternity leave beginning August 11, 2017, and ending on September 25, 2017. On a motion made by Jimmy Wyatt, seconded by Linda Hoover with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following resignation: a. Amy Klug, Preschool Special Needs Teacher Sistersville Elementary School, effective May 30, 2017. On a motion made by Bonnie Henthorn, seconded by Linda Hoover with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following employments, transfers and rescissions. a. Transfer Chad Gruber from Social Studies Teacher at Tyler Consolidated Middle School to Social Studies Teacher at Tyler Consolidated High School, effective July 1, 2017. b. Employ Steve Eastham, Lisa George, Martin Parrish, Jacob Roberts, Timothy Patterson, Stacey Wade, Russell Blatt II, Melissa Snyder, Rodney Hayes and Robert Leasure. Summer Painters July 5, 2017 - July 18, 2017. On a motion made by Scott Strode and seconded by Linda Hoover with a 4-0 vote, the Board approved the following transfer. Board Member, Bonnie Henthorn, recused herself from this vote because the transfer involved her niece. a. Transfer Amanda Goodfellow from Second-grade Teacher at Arthur I. Boreman Elementary School to Second-grade Teacher at Sistersville Elementary School, effective July 1, 2017.
On a motion made by Bonnie Henthorn, seconded by Jimmy Wyatt with a 4-0 vote, the Board allowed and authorized Payment of Bills:
