SAM PROUDLY ANNOUNCES 2015 SAM MANAGEMENT CASE COMPETITION The Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) is please to provide the opportunity to showcase students management knowledge and skills in our annual Management Case Competition. The Management Case Competition: Has two divisions Open and Undergraduate Is open to all SAM Campus Chapters Provides the opportunity to compete with other students nationwide Provides feedback to the competing teams Provides certificates of participation to all team members Gives recognition in SAM Advanced Management Journal to the winning teams and universities Location of the 2015 SAM Management Case Competition The Thirty-first Annual SAM Management Case Competition will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015, at Las Vegas, Nevada, at the SAM International Business Conference. CASE COMPETITION RULES: Violating any of the following rules will disqualify the team. 1. Each SAM Campus Chapter is eligible to enter one team of two to five members in each division. Division definitions follow. Undergraduate Division: Students pursuing a bachelor s degree or any lower degree if all other eligibility requirements are met. Open Division: Students pursuing a master s degree or any lower degree if all other eligibility requirements are met. 2. Each team member must be on record with the International Headquarters of SAM as a paid member. 3. Each team member must register for the entire Conference and pay the fees outlined in the conference material. BECAUSE WE RECOGNIZE THAT EMERGENCIES ARISE, SUBSTITUTION WILL BE PERMITTED IF THE SAM HEADQUARTERS AND CASE COMPETITION DIRECTOR ARE NOTIFIED AS SOON AS THE SUBSTITUTION IS MADE AND THE SUBSTITUTE MEETS ALL OTHER ELIGIILITY REQUIREMENTS. 4. At least five teams must be entered in a division in order for SAM to certify competition and award prizes in that division. 5. Student teams agree that they will not seek outside help from any source after receiving the case. It is not acceptable to ask specific or general questions related to the case of anyone, or to have anyone read, listen to, watch, or provide feedback on the presentation. The presenting team is charged with doing its own work on the case with no assistance from anyone not on the team. It is NOT permissible to contact the case authors. 6. All deadlines below must be met. 7. Chapters wishing to receive case materials should contact the Conference Chair no later than February 1: Dr. Moustafa H. Abdelsamad Professor of Finance, College of Business 6300 Ocean Dr., OCNR 383, Unit 5808 Corpus Christi, TX 78412-5808 TEL: (361) 825-3045; FAX: (361) 825-5609 E-mail: sam@samnational.org With a copy to: Professor James E. Stewart SAM Management Case Competition Director Merrimack College North Andover, MA 01845 TEL: (978) 837-5337; FAX: (978) 837-5068 E-mail: james.stewart@merrimack.edu 8. Case materials will be mailed in January to each campus chapter that has reported a minimum of 1 paid members. 9. After receiving their materials, chapters should review them to determine if they wish to compete. A Response Form will be included in the materials and must be returned to Dr. Abdelsamad with a copy to Professor Stewart, postmarked no later than February 15, 2015. Later entrants may not be permitted to compete. 10. The presentation and question session will last up to 25 minutes. Presentations will be limited to fifteen minutes. Judges will have the remaining time (typically ten minutes) to ask questions. 11. Teams should provide a lead-in graphic that clearly identifies the school and participants names. 12. Each team may select the media it feels will most effectively deliver its message. However, two caveats apply. First, SAM will provide only the following support equipment: tables, chairs, and a lectern for the presenting teams, an LCD projector and screen, and a flip chart stand. Teams must provide their own slide projectors, audio equipment, video equipment, computers, and extension cords, etc. Teams should be aware that not all flip chart stands have tips on which to place a poster. Second, it will NOT be acceptable for teams to record (audio, movie, etc.) their presentation and show it to the judges. Teams should have other plans if an LCD projector does not work. Advisors and Coaches are not team members. 13. Presentations will be closed to the public. Each team may, at their discretion, have two designated listeners attend their presentation. The designated listeners will not be permitted to ask questions, make comments, or provide direction of any kind to the team that may result in disqualifying the team. Teams may audio or videotape their presentation so long as doing so does not interfere with SAM s videotaping the competition. 14. Each team and its faculty sponsor/advisor must certify that all work on the case and presentation was completed by those presenting the case and no others. A certification form will be provided with the case materials and must be submitted to the case competition director (or his/her representative) at the presentation. 15. By agreeing to participate in the Management Case Competition, each team is also agreeing to have its presentation videotaped. Upon request, each team will receive, as available, a videotape of the winning team in its division. Registration and attendance at, or participation in, SAM conference and other activities constitute an agreement by the registrant or attendee to SAM s use and distribution (both now and in the future) of the registrant s or attendee s image, likeness, and appearance in photographs and video of such events and activities.

How Does CCPP Work? No later than 30 days prior to the first day of the annual international conference, each chapter can submit an annual report of why the chapter should be considered among the three most outstanding SAM chapters in their division. Postmarks and fax times will determine whether a chapter has met the cutoff deadline. Submissions received after the cutoff date will not be considered. The report should be typed (word-processed), double-spaced on 8 ½ x 11 white paper, and submitted to: Dr. M. H. The categories are as follows: Large Chapter Medium Chapter Small Chapter Note: Chapter classification will be determined after reports are submitted. The reports must include: chapter name, address, phone number, and chapter advisor s name. Community projects undertaken and results 6. Chapter newsletters published 7. Helping to organize a new SAM chapter (business or campus) 8. Plans for the rest of the year 9. It is recommended that each chapter appoint one individual to keep track of what was accomplished during the academic year within each category. A chapter officer might be assigned this task. Make sure you submit your professional annual report at least 30 days prior to the first day of the annual conference. Best wishes to all chapters this year.

A chapter must have a minimum of 10 paid members to be eligible to participate. The student must meet the following criteria: 1. Each member in attendance will be allowed to cast up to three votes. More than three votes will invalidate the ballot. 2. The top three SAM students receiving the most votes will be elected (once approved by the SAM International Board). The student with the fourth highest number of votes will be the alternate. 3. The alternate will serve if, for any reason, one of the three cannot attend a meeting. The alternate may attend Board meetings but cannot vote unless one of the other three members is absent. 4. Each elected SAM Board member must attend at least two out of three meetings. One of the meetings must be during the annual SAM International Conference. 5. All expenses to attend the SAM Board meetings are the responsibility of the elected student and/or her/his school. SAM International office will pay for the three elected members hotel rooms for up to two board meetings for two nights each. The annual conference is not included and it is the students responsibility. The alternate will be included if one of the elected student members did not attend. 6. A SAM student member may serve on the Board as either a graduate or undergraduate student. 7. Each person running for the SAM Board must meet the following criteria: A. Be a dues-paying member of SAM before the SAM International Conference. B. Be an active SAM Campus Chapter member in good standing. C. Not be on academic probation at his or her institution of higher learning (the Faculty Advisor should verify that). D. Demonstrate commitment to professional management excellence. E. Show a commitment of service to the local SAM Chapter. 8. Must be nominated during student orientation at the SAM International Conference by a dues-paying member. 9. Only one student can be elected from each school; however, more than one student can run from an individual school. 10. Each nominated student is required to give a 2 to 5 minute speech to SAM student attendees at the Conference. 11. Vitae must be sent to the International SAM Office prior to the Conference; however, last minute nominations can still be made from the floor during the student session. 12. The SAM International Office will verify if a student is eligible before or after the annual conference. If the student is not eligible, the alternate will serve.

This form should be returned as soon as possible, even if your team roster is not finalized, so that we can establish the number of judges and competition rooms to be scheduled. The Case Competition registration is not a conference registration. You must register for the conference with the SAM International Headquarters. Your team is authorized to make one (1) copy of the case for each of the team members (maximum of 5 members) who will be participating. We would like to remind you of the following rules: 1) Team members must be on record with the SAM International Office as paid members at this time. 2) Team members may not discuss the case with anyone student, faculty, friend, or professional other than their own team members. 3) The team may not present the case or its analysis to any audience other than its own team members. (Those schools entering two teams may not practice with each other nor share analytic views.) 4) Team members must register for the full conference. A final team roster must be submitted no later than February 14, 2015. We will confirm that team members are registered through the international office after the receipt of your team registration. It is important that you clearly identify a contact person for us to notify if any confirmation problems arise. If you are waiting for funding from your college, you should contact Dr. Abdelsamad at the SAM International Office to arrange for registration and delayed payment. We look forward to meeting you at the 2015 SAM International Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you have any questions about the rules or procedures of the case competition, please contact Dr. Abdelsamad or Jim E. Stewart.
