1 Pax Christi Leadership Development Fund Grant Proposals What is the Leadership Development Fund? The Fund was created in 2004 to further Pax Christi s mission of welcoming all as leaders in faith for service to the world. A. The fund consists of parishioner donations and has two components: an endowment fund consisting of restricted gifts so that only the interest from the fund can be used and a fund of unrestricted gifts set aside for Leadership Development activities. B. Purpose: The Pax Christi Leadership Development Fund is to provide funding for Leadership Development and service activities for all members of the Pax Christi community. C. Who can apply? Any member of the Pax Christi Community may apply, this includes, lay adult members, students, staff, and clergy. D. What type of activities qualifies for the Leadership Development Grant? The Grant is primarily intended to develop Church Lay leadership initiatives in the areas of parishioner engagement and service based on the five Strategic Initiatives identified by the Pax Christi Community Council: i. Strategic Initiative 1. We believe that God, through Jesus Christ and the Spirit, calls us to worship as community. Our worship inspires and forms us to be able to live as Christ in the world. Our community has strong participation and a sense of responsibility as Word and Sacrament are celebrated leading us to connect Sunday worship with the rest of the week. ii. Strategic Initiative 2. We are a welcoming Catholic Community engaged in a life long journey of learning and living our faith. We challenge, encourage, and support one another so that we may more effectively live our baptismal call to serve one another as Christ s presence in the world. Our hospitality draws and engages members into active relationship with our community. iii. Strategic Initiative 3. We believe that a commitment to justice is integral to our life in Christ. As a result, our community is engaged in ongoing education in Catholic Social Teaching. We promote diverse, inclusive, and respectful dialogue to determine a focus for our justice investments of matching time, talent, and treasure. We experience a change in hearts and minds to be more Christ-centered while promoting positive systemic change in our world. iv. Strategic Initiative 4. We believe that Jesus Christ calls us to care for those in need and the poor in spirit. As a result, the Community of Pax Christi focuses on serving through our strengths while we lead a collaborative movement to broaden our reach to serve the ever increasing pastoral care and justice needs of the greater community. v. Strategic Initiative 5. Pax Christi strives to be mindful of living as good stewards. A substantial majority of our members participate in giving time, talent, and treasure. We receive gratefully and share generously. We make judicious use of our resources as we engage members in active participation and care well for all we have, including our facilities. Stewardship has truly become a way of life as our members grow in the fruits of the Spirit. Lay Leadership Development Grants are intended to expand the knowledge base, activities, and collegiality of Lay Leaders within the Pax Christi community, therefore requests should focus on new and creative ideas rather than expansion of programs already covered by parish councils or budgets.

2 Some recent examples of Awarded Lay Leadership Development Grants are: o Funding of a noted speaker on developing Lay Leaders o Development of a video for catechist recruitment o Various training initiatives on Living Your Strengths o On-line leadership training for prospective Council Members E. How much funding can I request? We recommend that funding requests fall within a range of $100.00 to $10,000.00. F. When are funds awarded? Funding requests may be submitted anytime during the year. Review and awarding of requests will take place monthly, except for the month of July, when there is no Lay Leadership Council meeting. G. How do I apply for the Lay Leadership Grant? You will find the application below. It is strongly suggested that prior to completing the application you review your idea with the Pax Christi staff leader in the appropriate ministry area and obtain the support of that leader. The staff leader will consult with the appropriate ministry council and ascertain that ideas align with goals in that ministry area. If you are uncertain of which ministry area your request might fall under, contact Jane Schmitz, Parish Director. Once a sponsor is obtained, complete the application and submit it to Jane Schmitz, Parish Director. H. Who reviews and approves grants? The Pax Christi Lay Leadership Development Council is responsible for reviewing applications and awarding dollar amounts. The Council will evaluate your application and presentation based on the following criteria: a. Does the proposal align with Pax Christi Catholic Community mission, vision and values? b. Does the proposal contribute to lay leadership development in a ministerial area? c. Does the proposal engage leaders across ministry areas? d. Does the proposal meet the local needs of the Pax Christi Community? e. Does the proposal reflect new, fresh ideas in leadership rather than a simple extension of initiatives already in place at Pax Christi? f. Does the proposal build leadership skills for the most significant number of leaders? g. Is the financial request realistic within the boundaries of current resources and practices of Pax Christi? h. Are the measurements for goal achievement, realistic and attainable? You will be asked to present your proposal to the Lay Leadership Development Council as a whole. I. How soon will I know if the grant is approved? The Lay Leadership Development Council will approve or deny all grant requests in writing to the requestor within 2 to 4 weeks of the presentation of the grant request, except when the Council requests further clarification or information. J. Who do I contact if I have questions? Jane Schmitz, Parish Director, 952-405-7238, or jschmitz@paxchristi.com
