HOOP SCOOP Volume 2, Issue 2 WELCOME TO THE COUGAR BASKETBALL NEWSLETTER FROM THE DESK OF COACH EGANS Good Afternoon! Hitting Mid-December usually means basketball is in full swing regardless of level. I hope everyone has enjoyed the winter semester as much as I have so far, and we look forward to seeing you throughout the season. As we work our way through our tough district schedule, as a staff we are becoming more excited about this season and the development of this young team. After entering the season with no experienced varsity players returning we knew these players needed to be taught the game and molded in the Crosby Way of doing things to reach their full potential. Due to grueling but spirited practices the team has demonstrated great resilience and teamwork during competition. This team has taken on a blue collar approach to the season while adopting the motto of Grind to symbolize their work ethic mentality. God Bless, Coach Egans December 17 th 2014 THE GRIND Do the things you have to do, so you can do what you want. Coach Egans
Tournament of Champions Over the past month the boys basketball team competed in the McDonalds Invitational and the Lee College Classic. This was a great experience for the young Cougars that were able to get a chance to play against top competition around the state. The Cougars took their lumps early in the McDonalds Invitational losing to the Pearland Oilers and a state ranked Sharyland Pioneers. However, the Cougars were able to bounce back the next couple of days and defeat Channelview and Galena Park to capture the third place in the bronze division of the McDonalds Invitational. Shortly after the McDonalds Invitational the Cougars shifted their focus on the Lee College Classic. It was during this time the Cougars really began to gel and play with ferociousness on defense. The Cougars were able to defeat the Kinkaid Eagles, GCM Patriots, and the Deer Park Deer to win the championship of the Silver Bracket. Ka Vontre Mouton played well all throughout the tournament and was named to the alltournament team. It s What We Do!!! HAVOC It s Who We Are!!! QUOTE OF THE MONTH Obstacles don t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. -Michael Jordan 2
