Chamber-sponsored projects 1) Main Street Beautification Plan: Members weed, mulch and plant flowers in tree wells that have been neglected. The plantings help keep Main Street looking beautiful. The new bike racks are a collaborative project between the Chamber of Commerce, businesses and the Borough. The new Welcome to Bradley Beach sign at the north end of town was donated by the Chamber, using Lobster Fest profits. 2) The Chamber has maintained a good working relationship with the Tourism Commission by donating funds for their beautification projects (the hanging flower baskets and the Welcome banners), and by having Chamber members serve on the board. 3) The Chamber is in constant contact with the Mayor and Public Works Department to keep on top of Main Street problems. For example, when the decorative lamps are out and the street is dark, just a phone call has the lamps lit again. 4) When the Chamber sponsors a fund-raising event, our members are always welcome to bring their business cards, menus, brochures, etc., to hand out to visitors from the Chamber s table. Additionally, at the Chamber office in the Kearny Bank, we have a table for our members business information.

Bradley Beach Has It All!! 501 Main Street, Bradley Beach, NJ 07720 732-869-1020 ** 732-455-3382 Fax www.bradleybeachnj.org website ****bbcc@bradleybeachnj.org Email Dear Chamber Member: Since the Chamber of Commerce began in November, 2004, there have been a lot of changes in Bradley Beach and in our business community. There was a time when there were many empty store fronts in our business district which looked neglected and, at night, deserted. Also, during the holiday season, our business district consisted of one string of lights on each end of town and very few lights in Riley Park. The Chamber set up our Main Street Beautification committee whose aim was to identify problems in our business district. We took pictures of weeds growing in the tree wells, trash on the street, broken and partially alive trees. There were decorative street lights in our business district that were not working. The first thing our committee decided to do was to go before the Borough Council and ask if something could be done regarding the problems with our decorative lighting. Our working with the Borough on this matter was just the beginning of good things to follow in our business district. We showed the pictures to then Mayor Julie Schreck and she agreed that something should be done. Our committee decided we needed to form a Garden Club. Volunteers showed up and weeded the tree wells and then planted seasonal flowers in them. The following year the volunteers and Public Works employees filled the tree wells with nourishing mulch. The Chamber s Beautification Committee worked along with and donated funds to the Tourism Commission and to the Borough for hanging flower baskets, snowflakes and seasonal banners on Main Street. Del Ponte s Bakery generously donated the holiday banners. Bill Psuik from the Borough Planning Board and John Esposito discussed adding bike racks to the business district, where space permitted. With funding from the Chamber and from several businesses in town, bike racks were added to the Bowling Alley, Kearny Bank, Fins, The Beach Cinema, and Vic s Restaurant. As new businesses arrive in town, the Chamber welcomes them and, if wanted, sets up ribbon cutting/grand opening events for them along with publicity photos for the newspapers. Our annual fundraiser, Lobster Fest, has become a major event at the Jersey Shore. It brings people from all over and helps promote Bradley Beach tourism. It is a major fundraiser that enables us to distribute donations to good causes

that help promote our businesses. Last year, we helped create and sponsor a new, very successful event, the Howl-O-Ween/Pooch Parade festival. We were happy to get this started to be an annual event for our town. Our Restaurant Tour has become very popular and helps showcase our fine restaurants. We have some of the most wonderful restaurants around. Small Business Saturday: The Chamber paid for several great Small Business holiday ads in both the Coaster and Coast Star newspapers which were free of charge for our members, and helped to raise awareness of Small Business Saturday. We made sure there was a colorful banner in Riley Park. We hope to make Small Business Saturday bigger and better each year. John Esposito and the Chamber s Main Street Beautification committee appreciate all the support we have received from Mayor Engelstad, members of Council and the Public Works employees in our joint efforts to beautify our business district. Also, the Coaster and Coast Star newspapers have played a major role in our efforts to constantly improve our business district. Additionally, we are pleased to offer our members free email blasts sent to over 500 email addresses both in Bradley Beach and the surrounding communities. Our free Facebook welcomes contributors daily. There are many new businesses in town that may be unaware of how our business district has improved greatly over the years. Through a lot of hard work and the joint efforts of the Chamber and the Borough working together, our business district has been improved. We wish you all a very healthy, happy and prosperous New Year. We hope to make the coming year one of our best.
