Color War Color War at Camp Seneca Lake is when all campers and staff are split up into two teams of about 200 people. Both teams compete in a variety of athletic, intellectual and performing arts activities for a period of over two days. Color War challenges people s ability to step out of their comfort zone and work collectively as a team. This program is nationally recognized and is considered the signature program at Camp Seneca Lake. DJ & Event Set Up I have been a DJ for many dances and social events. My experiences include setting up audio-visual equipment for small and large events such as business presentations, school assemblies, and concerts for over hundreds of people. In addition, my experiences also included running logistics for the events. Fall Festival Fundraiser The Fall Festival fundraiser at IDEAL & Dream School profited over $20,000. The event lasted one day and included rides, games, pumpkin patch, animal farm, food and much more My role as event chair was to assist in planning and budgeting, setting up and breaking down, and making sure the event ran efficiently.
Family Field Day & Campout Family Field Day consisted of all families from IDEAL & Dream School to participate in a variety of fun and active games. Following Family Field Day, all of the families set up tents and camped out before sleeping over outside on a polo field. My role as event chair was to organize and supervise the event to ensure fun, safety and success. Field Trips I organized several field trips for IDEAL & Dream School to attend professional sporting events including Miami Heat (basketball) and Florida Panthers (hockey) games. Gifts Families, colleagues, and players had given me many gifts throughout the years for holidays, birthdays, and as general thank you s. Every gift had a specific memory or story behind it that meant a lot to me. Every gift I have ever received was placed on a bookshelf for safekeeping.
Hobby Program I co-founded the development of the Hobby Program at Camp Seneca Lake that focused on the sequential development of a specific skill set. Each camper was asked to choose a skill set that they were interested in and focus on during a four week span. JCC Adapted Sports Program I developed the first ever Adapted Sports Program at the Jewish Community Center of Rochester. It helped pave the way for the JCC to become an inclusive fitness facility for individuals with disabilities. We had weekly group classes focusing on fitness and functional skills and private one on one coaching. Jump Rope for Heart Each year we collected over $7,000 for the American Heart Association while promoting health and physical fitness. I was responsible for organizing and planning Jump Rope for Heart at IDEAL & Dream School. Each event included mass jump roping and culminated with a group picture as seen below.
Letters These letters are from former campers, colleagues, parents, players, and students.
Special Moments I received a Staff Acknowledgement Award at Camp Seneca Lake in 2012 for Most Valuable - Given to the person whose contributions to the community were most extensive and valued. The award was delivered to me by two of my life long mentors, Ari Baum (left) and Rob West (right). This was me with Scoop Jardine after our Senior Night for the Syracuse University Men s Basketball Team. Scoop and I maintain a close relationship to this day. Following a Syracuse University Men s Basketball game, I met two of the most legendary coaches in basketball history. Both Jay Wright (left) and Larry Brown (right) were role models of mine growing up. This picture was taken after my Village at Camp Seneca Lake won Fight Song in 2012, a competition that combined song writing, singing, and dancing. I supervised a village of 8-10 year old boy s and we competed against 200 other campers and staff. The amount of time spent working and practicing together brought us closer together as a group. Everyone s hard work and commitment to group success came to fruition.
Sports Program at IDEAL & Dream School My role as Athletic Director required me to develop a brand new sports program at IDEAL & Dream School. The school never had after school athletic opportunities. In the first year we developed several teams including basketball, cheerleading, flag football, soccer and volleyball. We had professional style uniforms and competed against local teams. The Sports Program had been acknowledged as a major reason for many families to remain at IDEAL & Dream School. At the end of each season I planned, prepared, and hosted a Sports Banquet for the student-athletes at IDEAL & Dream School. The banquets had been considered the event of the year by many students and parents. Some highlights of the banquets included the cakes with team pictures, trophies for each player, tunnel for player introductions, and the many raffle items that included autographed sports memorabilia and tickets to professional sport games.
Website Development and Management I have experienced developing and managing multiple websites. The websites include my personal website, Camp Abilities Brockport and various programs I have been affiliated with. Below are screen shots of some of these websites.
Zimbabwe Service Trip I took a group of students on a two-week trip to Zimbabwe, Africa to work with Hoops4Hope, an organization providing opportunities and education to underprivileged children using basketball as a teaching tool. We worked with Hoops4Hope in developing their curriculum and participating in their program. In addition, we raised over $2,000 worth of equipment, clothes and funds that were donated to Hoops4Hope. We also toured and experienced the beautiful landscape, environment and culture of Zimbabwe.
