WARREN COUNTY FAIR CHANGES New 2016 County Fair Rules Livestock: ALL exhibits will be dismissed by superintendents at 9 pm on Sunday evening. (Note the time change.) One tie-out space per animal coming to fair may be reserved AFTER 8 am Monday, July 25th. The only way to reserve the space is with a neck tie. NO string, signs, wire, etc. No tents, awnings, or canopies can be placed until AFTER 8 am, Monday, July 25th. Exhibit Building: If a member is unable to attend conference judging, they are limited to two exhibits and will not be considered for the Iowa State Fair. VOLUNTEER TRAINING ~ DECEMBER 10 @ 6:30 PM Encouraging the HEART of Leadership- 4-H Volunteer Join 4-H leaders from across Warren County on December 10th at 6:30 pm at the extension office (West Door) for an annual volunteer training. Youth do not magically become leaders at the age of 13! Leadership is nurtured from their first 4-H experience. In this training, you ll receive tools to help inspire youth of all ages to discover and develop independence and mastery. TEEN RETREAT A benefit of participating in the face-to-face volunteer training is the interaction and sharing with other volunteers. Youth Outstandingly Lean Onward Youth in grades 7-12th are invited to join Dallas, Madison, and Polk counties on Tuesday, December 29th Wednesday, December 30th at Camp Wesley Woods, Indianola. Youth will learn secrets to: Kickin Out stress DreaM it, plan it, do it! StylinG with leadership Creating and Building Trust Networking To Success No I in TeamWork We will also have the author of Power, Presence, and Style, Jodie Beach. 4-H FOUNDATION GRANT OPPORTUNITY Club Grants The Warren County 4-H Foundation has been in existence since late last fall and they are excited to say that they have enough funding to start offering improvement grants to Warren County 4-H Clubs and groups! Fall Grant applications will be due to the Foundation by November 30, 2015 with money being disbursed in early January 2016. Grants will be given in amounts up to $1,000. There will also be a spring 2016 Grant application. The grant application can be found at www.extension.iastate. edu/warren/4h. Looking for College Scholarships? HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS There are many scholarships available to High School Juniors and Seniors. The Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award is available to 15 Iowa High School Juniors. They receive a $1,000 cash award and 3 students could earn an additional $5,000 schol- arship. The next application deadline is March 15, 2016. More information can be found at http:// www.hooverassociation.org/ grantsawards/ uncommon_student.php. 2016 Graduating Seniors can apply for the Christina Hixon Opportunity Award by February 1st by going to: https://apps-dso.sws.iastate.edu/ scholarship/hixson/app CWF TRIP FOR 9-12TH GRADE Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) Trip Looking for an experience of a lifetime? Look no further than the Citizenship Washington Focus trip where you as a 9 th -12 th grader can travel by charter bus to visit Washington D.C. and the National 4-H Center. Experience leadership and citizenship on a higher level with this epic opportunity on June 10-18, 2016. Approximately 90 Iowa 4--H Youth will have the opportunity to attend this leadership program. Participants learn the importance of civic and social responsibilities as they relate to the development of better citizens and leaders. The week consists of participatory workshops, speakers, committee work, field trips and social events. Trip highlights include the Flight 93 Museum, Gettysburg Battlefield, Capitol Hill, Smithsonian Museum, Mount Vernon and the Holocaust Museum. Youth will also meet with the Iowa Congressional and Senate delegations to discuss legislative issues. On top of tours and workshops, 4-H'ers will have time for socializing and meeting new friends! Cost of the trip is $1,570. This includes lodging, transportation, tour site admissions and most meals. Registration and a $510 deposit will be required to secure a spot. Space is limited. That is why we have an opportunity to help! There is a $500 Jane Ann Putney Memorial Fund Scholarship. Write an essay based upon how 4-H has impacted your life and the experiences and rewards you hope to receive from the Citizenship Washington Focus trip. You could be the recipient of the $500 Jane Putney 4-H Memorial Scholarship to help cover your costs.
