Graduate Scholarship Opportunities Roles: The Graduate Scholarship and Awards Committee To adjudicate the externally funded awards (CGS-M and OGS); Act as Subject Matter Experts when reviewing applications; The membership is entirely Graduate Faculty. The Dean is the chair and all programs have equal representation. Govern the award criteria, processes, and policies on behalf of the university. Please Note: Scholarship decisions made by the committee are final and not eligible for appeal.

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) Purpose and background: Encourages excellence in graduate studies at the master s level Available to students in all disciplines of academic study 14

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) Value and Duration: An OGS is awarded for up to one academic year, which may consist of two or three consecutive terms, at $5,000 per term. Thus you may receive $10,000 for two consecutive terms or $15,000 for three consecutive terms. One term awards are not granted. Non-renewable, you will need to apply each year. To a lifetime maximum of 6 years of government-funded student awards (2 years at the Master s level, and 4 years at the PhD level). 15

Current full-time graduate students and applicants who are: In good standing with OSAP; This will be verified by the OCAD U Financial Aid & Awards Office. Note: Full-time students who are taking a reduced/part-time course load due to an accommodation may still be considered for an award provided all other eligibility requirements are met. 16

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) Eligibility (cont d): Must be taking an eligible program, which is defined as a full-time program of study of two or three terms at an eligible institution leading to a graduate degree. You must also be a Canadian Citizen OR have one of the following statuses: Permanent Resident Protected Person Student study permit under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada). 17

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) Eligibility (cont d): Holding a first-class average of 80% (A-) in each of their most recent two completed years of academic study (full-time equivalent); or, their application must demonstrate excellence, experience, expertise, accomplishments, and/or recognition in their area of study (as determined by the Graduate Scholarship and Awards Committee). This includes only courses completed up to August 31st, 2018; You cannot hold a CGS-M scholarship at the same time as an OGS. 18

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) Step 3 (cont d): Statement of Intent Guidelines - 3,500 characters max Provide a description of your proposed course of study (statement of intent) for the period during which you will hold the award. Be as specific as possible in your discussion. Your statement should identify your preparedness to undertake this work and should position your proposed research within the context of the current knowledge in the field. 350 characters = ~580 words 22

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) Step 3 (cont d): Reference Letters These can be the same individuals who acted as referees for your application to your program. If you have already developed a relationship with a current professor, having an OCAD U referee is encouraged. You will send your referees a notice through SlideRoom. You are encouraged to follow up with them directly and monitor their progress. Reference letters are due the same day as the application January 14 th, 2019. 24

Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS) Step 4: Finalize and Submit your Application Ensure all required pieces are completed and uploaded into SlideRoom. Send a reminder to your referees if they have not yet completed their letters. There is no application fee required. 25

Eligibility to Hold the Award: Hold an active CGS at the time your research study period abroad starts; Be registered full-time in a graduate research studies program at a Canadian institution for the duration of your research study period abroad; Take up the award within one year of receiving the notice of award for the CGS-MSFSS; and Return to complete your degree at your Canadian institution. 59

Key Dates Submit application and all required documents to the Office of Graduate Studies by the internal application deadline for consideration. Deadlines are normally in May and September of each year. Deadlines for applications will be announced in the Spring of 2018. Results are announced in August and December of each year. 60
