The Bel Air Fourth of July parade had dry skies after a misty morning. Twelve members participate as well as four of the Jarrettsville Young Marines. The Young Marines were also featured in the Bargaineer when they marched the Colors in the Darlington parade sporting the flag harnesses that we donated to them. Gloria Crother s Heede Poker Run was also met with clear skies. We had several members support on bikes and in cars as she remembered her son Michael s sacrifice for his Country and Marine Corps while raising money for the Semper Fi Fund. Art Romain had an exceptional time as he, once again, took the prize with a full house. We also had a nice, although hot, day for our Detachment picnic. Thanks to everyone who came out and brought food and stories to share. After a hearty meal some of us tried our hand at corn hole and bocce ball. Nail biting games with victory laps made for an enjoyable time. I have sent off our application for the Harford County Farm Fair July 30-August 2. They will have a Vendors Village set up where everyone will be stationed. I hope we can get adequate volunteers to come help out with this as it is the perfect event for recruiting. The Farm Fair is well attended by the citizens of Harford County and if there are Marines attending, we can hand them information and try to get them to join the detachment. The Young Marines will also be there to assist so we won t have to overextend our members at this event. I will also need someone to take charge of the Havre de Grace Seafood Festival on August 7-9 as well as the Bel Air BBQ Bash on August 14-15. These two event unfortunately fall right in line with the National convention and four of our most willing volunteers will be traveling to and from Arizona during these two events. Please contact Sr. Vice Commandant Craig Reeling if you will head up one or both of these events. I hope everyone is having a nice summer! Semper Fi Evie Remines Commandant Harford County Det. 1198
Page Page 2 2 Comments from the Sr. Vice Commandant The Detachment continues to be active in our community. Since our last meeting we worked Bel Air First Friday s and marched in the Bel Air 4 th of July Parade. A few Marines even rode in our float provided by Past Commandant Don Benson. The Jarrettsville Young Marines carried M1 Rifles right behind our Color Guard and Commandant Remines let me have the honor of carrying our Detachment Guidon. Parade photos were posted to Facebook. The Det even managed to present a Fallen Marine Program the same day we were notified. I have been kept busy with a few other great MCL & USMC events this month. I was among the members who attended the Mideast Division Conference in Fredericksburg, VA. A good time was had by all who attended. I participated in a guided tour of Charlotte Hall Veterans Home and my cousin MGySgt Ruth McDonald retired from the President s Own after 30 years of service. It was an impressive ceremony at the John Philip Sousa Band Hall at the Marine Barracks in Washington, DC. The band had great things to say about my cousin and her legacy. She really left her mark. Our Event Shirts have been ordered. We are looking forward to working the BBQ Bash in Bel Air and the Havre de Grace Seafood Festival in August. We always have a great time at these events. We will need a few more volunteers since a few regulars will be at the National Convention those weekends. And finally, don t forget I have a new email address Craig.Reeling@MarylandMarines.org. Please update your email contact list. Semper Fi, Craig Reeling Sr. Vice Commandant The position for Detachment Adjutant The LASHUP Comments from the Jr. Vice Commandant Hello Again Marines, The July 4th Parade was a wonderful event. I hope you were there to see us. This year we had young marines marching behind the Honor Guard. The whole parade route was packed with a very loud crowd shouting their support and appreciation. Anyone who wants to help out with the Honor Guard please contact Don Benson. See you at the next meeting. July 28th. Semper Fi, Dan Narango Jr. Vice Commandant

Detachment 1198 Page 9 Cell Phones for Soldiers We have supported our deployed troops by collecting 18 phones in the past month. To date that is over 2066 cell phones. These phones are sent to a collection point and exchanged for telephone calling cards which are sent to troops overseas. This enables them to call family and friends at no cost to them. If you have collected any phone donations, please be sure to bring them to the next business meeting. Art Romain, MarineCorpsLeague.Detachment1198? Mike Heede 6th Memorial Poker Run July 11, 2015
