Introduction South West London and St Georges Mental Health Trust is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for its staff and the population it serves This report fulfils some of the specific duties required by law set out in the Equalities Act specifically the Equality Duty (section 9 of the Act) that came into force on th April. Specific Duties Required: The specific duties require public bodies to: Public information to show their compliance with the Equality Duty, at least annually; and Set and publish equality objectives, at least every four years Publishing information showing compliance with the Equality Duty The Public Sector Equality Duty is a key element in making sure that fairness is at the heart of public bodies work and that the public sector service meet the needs of different groups. The general duties of the Act require NHS organisations to have due regard to the need to: Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Act Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it Protected Characteristics The protected characteristics covered by the equality duty are: Age Disability Gender reassignment Marriage and civil partnerships( but only in respect of eliminating unlawful discrimination Pregnancy and maternity Race- this includes ethnic or national oprigins, colour or nationality Religion or belief- this includes lack on belief Sex Sexual orientation Page of

The information that is published must include: Information relating to employees who shares protected characteristics (public bodies with over employees) Information relation to people affected by the public body s policies and practices who share protected characteristics There are a number of reports that contain various elements of Equality information in the Trust.. The Equality strategy sets out the Trust s equality goals and objectives and outlines how we aim to embed the principles and considerations into the everyday business of the organisation. This addresses the specific Equality Duty to publish equality objectives every four years.. This report (The Public Sector Equality Duty Data report) outlines the data that is required to be published on an annual basis 3.
