The Fifth Evidence-Based Pediatric Update Symposium CME/CE Certified Activity Saturday, November 3, 2018 7:00 am 2:30 pm LOCATION: Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Clinical Academic Building 125 Paterson Street New Brunswick, NJ 08901 PROVIDED BY: Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Pediatrics in collaboration with The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital

Overview A wide range of diseases and conditions that affect children and adolescents cause significant mortality and morbidity. These diseases present challenges to clinicians who diagnose and manage patients with these disorders on a daily basis. Providers must be able to identify, diagnose, treat, and refer when necessary, a wide range of pediatric conditions. In addition to the significant morbidity and mortality that can occur without proper diagnosis and treatment, health care costs can be increased due to unnecessary testing and improper referral. Presenting current evidence-based information by expert pediatric subspecialists will enhance the knowledge, competence and performance of clinicians regarding current and new management concepts, guidelines and recommendations that they need to know and implement in order to provide their patients with state-of-the-art care. This activity will highlight the latest diagnostic techniques and management strategies that impact the care of patients with common and complex pediatric disorders. The latest clinical research findings and their application to clinical practice will also be presented. Armed with the information from this activity, clinicians will be able to make timely diagnostic, treatment and referral decisions in the context of patient choice and the resources within their communities. In addition, providers will be able to prepare patients and their caretakers for what to expect from recommended testing, consultations and treatment plans. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Recognize childhood conditions commonly presented in the pediatric practice setting Assess current practice guidelines managing common pediatric health concerns Identify effective strategies for diagnosing and managing challenging clinical problems in practice Review recent advances in biomedical and behavioral sciences that will impact the medical care of children Recognize the pathologies for specific medical conditions that may require consultation and/or evaluation by a specialist. Target Audience This activity is designed for primary health care providers involved in the diagnosis, evaluation, management, and treatment of patients with pediatric disorders; this includes, but is not limited to, pediatricians, family practice physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Method of Participation In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits, participants are expected to check in at the registration desk, attend the program and complete an online evaluation form at the conclusion of the activity. A letter certifying attendance and credit verification will be emailed to participants upon completion of the online evaluation survey. Accreditation In support of improving patient care, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
