Judith Basin County 4-H News March 2018 DEMONSTRATION & SPEECH DAY The date is getting closer! This is a great opportunity to hone your public speaking skills. Demonstration day is March 18, 2018 in Hobson, MT starting at 1:00pm. Talk with your leaders and get ready for a great time. If you are going to 4-H Congress this summer, you must present at County Demo Day! Remember to have your registration in to the County Extension Office by March 9, 2018. Once again we are running the fair book cover contest. The contest is open to 4-H members, regardless of age. A $40 gift certificate to North Forty will be awarded to the winner. Due to the Extension Office: Friday, March 16, 2018. Picture resolution needs to be as high as possible. Picture may be in color or black & white. No panoramic pictures. Picture will need to cover 5 W x 7 1/2 H portrait style. Pictures may include people, but should not be the primary subject. Member must take the photo. 4H WEANER PIGS MILLER FARMS If you haven t applied for any of these scholarships Miller Farms pigs are Hampshire/ Yorkshire cross. They are located in Livingston, MT. The price is $175.00 @ pig. A requirement of $75.00 deposit to hold the pigs. The balance of $100.00 is paid when the customer picks up the pigs. Contact number for Cindy Miller is 406-220-2122. This partnership will be hosting a nation-wide fashion contest that is open to 4 -H ers ages 14-19. The winner will get a tour of JO- ANN Fabric & Craft headquarters and will attend the Kent State Fashion Show April 27-29, 2018! 4-H SENIOR CAMP Don t miss out! It s time again for camp. Camp will be at Camp Maiden outside of Lewistown, MT. Day one will start at 5:00pm and run till 11:00am on the last day. The dates are May 31 thru June 2, 2018 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM Lets try this again! As long as we can keep the snow off the roads. We will have the same speaker as was planned last month. Doug is with the MSU Fire Services Training School in Great Falls. This will be an exciting time. Remember March 8th and bring your enrollment forms if you haven t done so. MONTANA 4-H FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP the deadline is coming up. All applications are due April 1, 2018. You can find these applications and info about the scholarships at: http://www.montana4h.org/programs/grants/ scholarships.html 4-H REC LAB Be sure to put this date in your plans! Rec Lab will be in Thompson Falls on March 23-25, 2018. Youth must be 13+ as of October 1, 2017 to participate. Don t miss this opportunity to learn and enhance your leadership, communication and team building skills. There will be lots of fun activities. This will be a great time for all. Remember to have your medical release forms turned in to the JB County Extension Office. THE BOBCAT DEN A program to help Montana 4-H Youth develop their entrepreneurial skills A statewide pilot 4-H project targeting entrepreneurial skill development. Research has shown that youth who engage, experiment & develop their entrepreneurial skills and attitudes become the future innovators, the social providers of new solutions and the builders of financial strength. This project is designed under the umbrella of the Self Determined project. Members will form a cohort of other interested members across the state to learn entrepreneurship beginning with a business plan, moving on to production and developing a marketing strategy. Members will meet at various locations around the state at least four times during the year where they will form relationships among themselves, meet with local business mentors, tour local small businesses and learn the basics of entrepreneurship. Members must be 13 years of age and older, be willing and able to travel to the workshops and be committed to setting and accomplishing goals. The goal of this project is for members to be empowered to move their business vision to the next level of success.

SHOOTING SPORTS LEADER TRAINING Leaders here s another chance to have shooting sports training. The training will take place on April 6-7, 2018 in Billings, MT at the 4-H Building at the Metra. Registration begins at 5:30pm. There is a Pre-Training quiz that needs to be completed and brought to the training. If you are interested in taking this training contact the JB County Extension for a copy of the quiz or go to the link on our web site. Registration deadline is March 28, 2018. 4-H VOLUNTEER LEADER RE- TREAT The volunteer leader retreat is being scheduled so get your swimsuits out. Contact us at the JB County Extension Office for more details. DOG CLINICS AT BOS TERRA Exciting news! Nicole Tholt from Winnet will be instructing. Nicole is a former 4-Her with experience showing at AKC Novice and Rally who judges dog shows. Currently Nicole has a dog grooming business. Bring your dog, project book, treats & bag, choker chain and short leash and showmanship leash if you have one. There will be a $10 fee per member. Any questions call Erlonna at 366-3273. Be sure to mark March 4th on your calendars. Clinic will be at Bos Terra and will start at 1:00pm. HOSTING FAMILIES NEEDED There are sev- eral Japanese kids whom are in need of a hosting fami- ly this summer. This is a great opportunity for everyone in- volved. There is so much we can learn from each other and it s always fun. They will be here from July 22, 2018 thru August 17, 2018. This training is open to all 4-H volunteers, not just those attending Rec Lab. Only those NOT attending Rec Lab need to register with this information. Leaders College Level 2 will be offered in Ronan on April 28. Complete registration information will be available by Rec Lab. If you need the full registration go to: https://montana.qualtrics.com/jfe/ form/sv_bwm3qlk98xf2keh 4-H VOLUNTEER LEADERS & TEENS NEEDED! 4-H volunteer leaders and teens are needed to serve on the Montana 4-H Livestock Committee and Montana 4-H Horse Committee. Nomination forms are due March 1, 2018. This is a great opportunity for adult and teen volunteers to engage with others who share their interests in 4-H horse and/or livestock projects. Each committee tries to meet at least twice per year. Most meetings are conference calls, but face to face meetings are also possible. Most communication is conducted via email. More information can be found on the Judith Basin Extension web site. HAYS SHOW LAMBS 20th annual Montana Prime Pick show lamb sale will be held April 8, 2018.
