Page 2 December 2015 STATE UPDATE Accreditation: The Board of Governors has directed the Chancellor to work with the field to develop a recommended pathway forward to a new model of accreditation for our 113 colleges to be presented at its meeting in March. Options include either reforming our current commission, or seeking to join another accreditor. Workforce Task Force: The Board of Governors approved the 25 recommendations from their Task Force on Workforce, Job Creation and a Strong Economy. The Chancellor has requested that the Governor and Legislature fund these recommendations in the upcoming budget. This will be a topic of discussion in Sacramento meetings February 1 between SDICCCA and regional legislators. Budget for 2016-17: The Legislative Analyst s Office has projected nearly $400 million in additional ongoing money for Community Colleges and as much as $253 million in one-time-only funds. COLA is expected to be about 2 percent ($135 million for our system). All of this is likely to mean that the Chancellor s $900 million proposal for the coming year will likely be reduced significantly in the Governor s January budget message.
