Nomadic Shelter Update: Thank You s and Needs Thank you to all of you in our Federated family who have volunteered, donated food and supplies and prayed for us in our first weeks of hosting the Nomadic Shelter for the Homeless on Saturday nights! We are off to a good start! We still do not have enough volunteers for some of the shelter shifts and will have to make a decision soon if we can host every Saturday night from now through the end of March. Our biggest needs are these: 5:00-6:30 p.m. Drivers to pick up guests at the Upper Room and Walmart bus stop and bring them to Federated Church. Need two volunteers every Saturday evening. We have two shelter vans for this. 5:00-8:00 p.m. Secure Check In of shelter guests. Need three volunteers every Saturday evening. We have to have at least one man and one woman for this. 6:00-10:00 p.m. Supervise and visit with our shelter guests in Price Hall. This is light duty and offers a chance to visit with our guests, play cards or other games, watch a movie and help out with things as needed before the night shift crew arrives at 10:00 p.m. Need at least 3-4 volunteers every week for this. Volunteers can also come for any part of that four hour period. 6:00-7:30 a.m. Sunday morning supervision of and help our guests with cleanup. Set up for Sunday morning church activities that happen after our shelter guests leave. Jim Zeek is our hero for doing this every week, but he could use the help of another 2-3 people. 7:00-8:00 a.m. Drivers to take our guests back to Upper Broadway and the Walmart bus stop. Thank you Wendy West for being the Lead volunteer for this! Want to help or get more information? Please call or text Cyndy Salmon at 530-919-1610 and leave a message. Or send an email to nomadicshelter@yahoo.com.
Many thanks to you generous donors who gave $1512 to the annual Peace and Justice (Peacemaking) offering. We are sending 1/3 to the Presbyterian Church USA and 1/3 to the United Methodist Church to use in their peacemaking and justice programs in the US and around the world. Locally, we will give 1/3 to the Center for Violence-Free Relationships, which works with families helping deal with abusive relationships. They also work especially with children, helping them cope with a difficult life.
Spirit Boosters FOR THE JOURNEY OF AGING By Missy Buchanan, Advocate for Older Adults Aging is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. Do you feel like life is going by faster than ever before? Do calendars and clocks seem unstoppable? Pay attention to each hour of the day and give thanks to God for the gift of time. With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day. - 2 Peter 3:8
