MENTORS NEEDED BECOME A MENTOR - MAKE A DIFFERENCE Social Venture Partners ( SVP ) is seeking menrs coach non-profits and social enterprises in our 3rd annual Advance San Diego program. Modeled on fast pitch venture capital funding competitions, Advance San Diego helps organizations define their impact, powerfully communicate their vision, and raise more funds as a result. The event will spotlight 12 non-profits, affording the selected applicants an opportunity present their concise compelling sry a 500-person audience comprised of funders, business leaders, and community members. Before and after the presentations, attendees will interact and network with the participants learn more about their mission, needs, and opportunities for support and engagement. HOW IT WORKS APPLICATION PERIOD Menr applications will be accepted until 5pm on Friday, May 30th, 2014. Sixty qualified menrs will be selected and notified of their acceptance the program within 14 days after submitting an application. IMPACT SEGMENTS There are three categories called Impact Segments, which participants may apply and compete. If you have competence in a particular category, please indicate as such on the menr application. STEM Open social enterprises with a focus on promoting and encouraging education in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math from kindergarten through college. A social enterprise will be considered any organization (for profit, or not-for-profit) which earns revenue and seeks realize social change as its core mission. 2nd Place - $10,000 Military and their Families Open non-profit organizations with a budget up $2.5 million that support our active duty military, veterans, and/or their families. 2nd Place - $10,000 Youth and the Arts Open non-profit organizations with a K-12 arts program which provides impactful program in the arts for underserved youth. Applicants shall demonstrate how their program creates positive social change. MENTOR PREREQUISITES Menrs should have an educational background or experience in the following areas: Business or Non-profit Consulting Communications Fundraising Marketing Non-profit Development Philanthropy Passion for Helping Others Strategic Planning Menrs working with our STEM participants should have experience in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math. MENTOR SUGGESTED CONTRIBUTION We are very appreciative of your time in menring the organizations.. In our effort make this program self-sustaining, we would greatly appreciate a suggested, tax-deductible donation of $150.00 which covers the following: a) Tickets the main event (which includes dinner and beverages) for yourself, and two members of your mentee s team; b) Lunches for yourself and the two mentee team members at each of the two workshops; c) Workshop instrucr materials and speaker fees and speaker travel and accommodation. d) Temporary staff hired manage the program. MENTORING ACTIVITIES AND TIME COMMITMENT The minimum time commitment is eight hours. Based on the last two years programs, most menrs reported spending an average of 10-12 hours coaching their mentees. Most of the menring time is scheduled at the menr s convenience at a mutually determined location.
