Va.- One hundred years of history, excellence and tradition will culminate in the inaugural St. Francis Hall of Fame Ceremony, as part of the Annual Alumni Weekend. 8 Inaugural Hall of Fame Inductees Announced Will be honored at Lakeview Resort banquet The Achievement Hall will honor individuals who have excelled in the classroom, the workplace or through extraordinary service, while the Athletic Hall will honor achievements in sports. This year s Achievement recipients include Rev. Colombo Bandiera, Class of 1943; Rev. Peter Flynn; Margaret Peggy Isaack; Laura J. Jimmie; and the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville. Rev. Bandiera was ordained in 1952, before serving at a number of parishes in North Central West Virginia, including St. Theresa s and St. Francis. Rev. Peter Flynn is the Founding Father of St. Francis School. His fundraising efforts allowed the high school to open its doors in 1955. Margaret Peggy Isaack taught art at St. Francis for 17 years. Her work has earned numerous awards from the Morgantown Art Association. Laura J. Jimmie was a St. Francis High School teacher for 27 years. She is also the mother of two graduates, Steven and Wayne. The Ursuline Sisters, along with Rev. Flynn, founded St. Francis Elementary School in 1915. They were instrumental in helping Flynn realize his vision of Catholic education. The inaugural class of the Athletic Hall includes Joseph Becilla, Class of 1938; Lou Merck; John Rockis, Class of 1936; and Jack Simons. Joseph Becilla graduated from St. Francis in 1938. He was the leading scorer of the WV Catholic Basketball Tournament. Lou Merck coached the Trojan basketball team from 1938-1947. He was honored as a state Centennial Sports Great in 1963. John Rockis graduated from St. Francis in 1936. He was the captain and leading scorer on the 1935 undefeated Trojan football team. Jack Simons served St. Francis as Athletic Director, founding the football program in 1934. Simons coached two teams to undefeated seasons in 1935 and 1938. The inaugural Trojan Service Award will honor the Alexander Family. John Alexander, Sr. is the namesake of the memorial golf tournament, in its 19th year as a fundraiser for St. Francis. He served the school as Athletic Director for more than 30 years. Alexander s seven children are all St. Francis graduates. The 2014 Class will be inducted at a banquet Friday, June 20, at Lakeview Resort. The event is open to the public. Refer to page 4 of the newsletter for ticket information. PAGE 1
