Mission & Impact Statements Mission The Mountain Goat Trail is a rail to trail community outdoor recreation project to convert an abandoned railroad right-of-way into a multi-use recreational corridor between Grundy and Franklin Counties on the Cumberland Plateau in Middle Tennessee. Impact Accomplishments:The MGTA received an RTP grant to build an additional 2 miles which will connect to the Tracy City grant.the MGTA received a Project Diabetes grant to build an additional 3 miles which will connect the RTP grant to the Town of Monteagle.The MGTA facilitated the purchase by Grundy County of 17 miles of former CSX railbed to be converted into the Mountain Goat Trail.Goals:Continue our Go Grundy capital campaign to raise $150,000 over three years to connect the towns of Tracy City and MonteagleWork with the Grundy County Health Council and other groups on promoting healthy activities, especially on the Trail.Continue to acquire railbed and pursue funding to construct the Trail. Needs The MGTA is currently in a capital campaign to raise $150,000 over three years. These funds will be used to match our RTP grant, for property acquisition, and for auxiliary costs such as surveying and title work. Proceeds go to the MGTA.
