FROM THE DON S DESK As Jo Temple is on leave, sailing the ocean blue, it is up to me to welcome all new residents, relatives and staff who have joined us at Jindalee Aged Care Residence on behalf of all who work and reside here. The festive season is over and the new year has begun. We hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. Left to Right Kay Murray (Staff Manager) Jo Costuna (Director of Nursing) Pam Bondfield (Deputy Director of Nursing) The celebrations held here were a great success thanks to the hard work of our Health and Leisure team. Separating Hoya and Frangipanis Christmas lunches had a favourable outcome, giving more room for all who came. The bus outing to view the Christmas lights was greatly enjoyed by those who went. This will continue as a yearly activity. Plans for this year include renovations for Casuarina, Jarrah and Diosma. Starting soon will be the upgrading of the secure units, Casuarina and Jarrah. This will be disruptive to residents, staff and visitors alike. We aim to minimise the impact and maintain a safe environment. As with any building renovations noise levels will be high on occasion and we ask for your patience during this process. If you have any questions or concerns now or during the renovations please see Jo or myself. Following the completion of Casuarina and Jarrah, the Diosma wing will then be renovated. Along with this renovation there will be the addition of a coffee shop and some changes to the office and reception areas. Until the next time! Kind Regards Pam & Kay Page 2
HEALTH & LEISURE REPORT Health & Leisure Team Front: Kate, Richard, Odile & Leanne Back: Kate, Adrian, Michael & Tracey (Left to Right) Hello everybody, Happy New Year to all residents, families and staff. I hope Santa was good to you over Christmas and that you got to spend time with family and loved ones. We had a very full program over the Christmas period with 3 separate Christmas parties to accommodate all the residents and relatives that attended. We also had Christmas theme activities such as craft, a movie afternoon & cooking. There was a special bus outing during the evening to look at the Christmas lights with over 30 residents attending, and I heard this was a great success. From February 2016 our hairdresser Judy, will be working on Tuesday and Wednesday, plus Monday morning on a flexible basis. This change is to accommodate her increased workload since Frangipani opened. Page 3
I also had 3 weeks off over Christmas and I went to the USA to have a week in Disneyland with my wife, 20 month old son, sister and mother in law Kay Murray. After Disneyland we headed off to Colorado via, Las Vegas and Grand Canyon and had a very white Christmas in a cabin in the Rockie s. It was magical and I have come back rested and ready to get back into the swing of things. Here a few pictures of my adventure. Until next time Kind Regards Richard, Kate, Leanne, Michael, Adrian, Tracey, Odile & Kate Page 4
MONTHS IN REVIEW Remembrance Service Every year for ANZAC day and Remembrance we pay homage to all the servicemen and women who gave their lives or were affected by active service. Due to overcast weather our service on November 11 th was moved inside. We have many residents who have served in various locations overseas and they came to the service proudly wearing their medals. After the service morning tea was provided, which gave residents a chance to chat and recall memories. We appreciate the sacrifices they made and this is just a small way that we can acknowledge them. Volunteers Morning Tea We had a group of around 20 volunteers who attended the annual Volunteer s morning tea. We put on this event to thank all the volunteers who contribute to the smooth running of our program throughout the year. Page 5
