Alumni Association Canada Spring 2007 Vol. 1, Issue 2 President s Message The ground hog has forecasted an early spring and so NEDAC is also trying to wake up from its winter slumber. We are planning a series of technical and social events with the Annual Get Together being held in May of this year. I would request members to participate fully in the upcoming events and show support to your alumni association. During my recent visit to Pakistan, I had a chance to visit my alma mater, NED University of Engineering and Technology (NEDUET) and meet with the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Abul Kalam; the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Shamsul Haque; Dr. Sarosh Lodi, Chairman Civil Engineering Department and others. They provided me with details of on- NEDAC s First Seminar on Professional Licencing N.E.D. Alumni Association Canada (NEDAC) organized its first and wellattended technical seminar on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the Thorncliffe Library, Toronto for more than 40 participants on the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Licencing Program. The seminar started with the recitation of Holy Quran and Dr. Zubair Ahmed,, President NEDAC, in his welcome address gave a very entertaining presentation on N.E.D. College/University history. He also reiterated needs and objectives of formation of NEDAC. Mr. Sadiq Pirani,, NEDAC Executive Member, provided an going infrastructure development works, opening of new faculties and acquisition of state of art equipment for various departments. It was heartening to note that NEDUET is on a sound financial footing and has been able to receive educational and research grants from various national and international sources. The Vice Chancellor was pleased to know about the formation of NEDAC and its objectives. His letter addressed to NEDAC is presented on Page 4 in this newsletter. Once again, I request all members to support NEDAC in its activities through active participation in all its planned events. overview on PEO Licencing process and explained the licensure requirements. Mr. Tauseef Shamsi, a guest speaker, walked through the actual PPE exam and highlighted main study features. Mr. Arshad Azhar,, PTOE and Mr. Muhammad Anis,, both respected guest speakers have provided detailed information on Experience Review Committee's (ERC) expectations emphasizing the topics and nature of the experience that should be reported and valuable tips on how to prepare for the PEO interview process. NEDAC will continue to serve their members with similar informative seminar and workshop events in the future.

As an Engineer in Canada, I like to emphasize on importance of getting involved in professional organizations, NEDAC Technical Library The Technical Committee of NEDAC has established a Technical Library where books related to PPE as well as Confirmatory Technical Exams of PEO will be kept for the benefit of the NEDIANS who would need to write the respective Exams. Mr. Jawaid Inam and Mr.Syed Amir- Ur-Rehman (NEDAC Members working in Saudi Arabia) have donated the following books to the Library: 1. Canadian Professional Engineering Practice and Ethics, published by Nelson Thomson. 2. Law for Professional Engineers, published by McGraw Hill- Ryerson. These books were used by a fellow NEDIAN who wrote the Law & Ethics exam in December 2006. Mr. Abid Asghar is the Custodian of the Library who will maintain the records of Page 2 like Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE), respective provincial organizations and NEDAC.
