The Down yndrome Association of Greater t. ouis is thrilled to have your support for our signature event supporting and celebrating individuals with Down syndrome. t. ouis is home to one of the nation s largest walks, and that happens because of you! This year, we hope to welcome 200 teams to UD and raise $300,000 to support year-round programming and services for our community. To learn more about our work in and around t. ouis, please visit www.dsagsl.org and be sure to find DAG on your favorite social media outlet (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest). This packet is designed to help you make the most of your experience, and to create a large team that creates the most support possible for Down syndrome! You will also learn how your support of UD can help you attend our signature awareness event, Walk in the Park, on eptember 28. Please read this information thoroughly and contact our office with any questions at 314.961.2504 or jeremie@dsagsl.org. What I a UD Walk Team? It s easy as 1-2-3! Your walk team is a team gathered together to celebrate Down syndrome on June 9. Here s an easy guide to creating a stellar walk team: 1. Ask - ANYONE can be on your walk team, and there is no limit to how big your team can be! Family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and business associates should all be invited. 2. Honor - We highly recommend electing an individual with Down syndrome as your team captain and naming the team in his/her honor. Past team names have included Braden s Buddies, Down with Tyson, or Russell s One-Eyed Jacks! Also, don t forget to turn in the names of everyone on your team. Have them register online, or use the roster form in this packet. 3. Raise - Walkers are not asked to pay a registration fee. However, we ask each team to commit to raise a minimum of $25 per team member. This can be raised through online donations, fundraising events, or a number of other methods. The key to fundraising is simply to ask. The number one reason a person gives money is because they were asked! Once your team is assembled, set a fundraising goal so everyone stays focused. haring your story about how Down syndrome has impacted your life is also very important. If someone who is close to you knows why this is important to you, it will likely become important to them also. Have questions about fundraising? Take a look on the next page!

How do we fundraise? The possibilities are endless! We want each participant to actively raise money to support DAG if possible. Below are some ways you and/or your team can support UD: 1. et a goal Aim high but realistic. Remember, every dollar stays in t. ouis to support your Team Captain and others with Down syndrome! 2. Raise money online When you register for UD at dsagsl.org, you will receive login info to our site so you can create an online fundraising page. This is YOUR page for everyone to see you can share your personal story, and then email your page to friends or share via social media. It s the easiest way to raise money! Call our office with questions. We re here to help! 3. Use our forms to collect money via cash or check This packet contains forms to help in your fundraising efforts. ake checks payable to DAG, and be sure to note your name and your team s name so we give you the credit you deserve! If you use a pledge form, be sure to note your donation at the top. You can then challenge others to match it! 4. Create a fundraising plan Again, there are a number of ways you can raise money. Here is a sample of ideas call us if you need help thinking of others. a. upport signs Customized signs will be placed along the walk route at UD. ell signs for $10 to show some love for your team captain! b. atching Funds Employers often have programs in place to match your donations. UD FAQs 1. Does the $25 minimum fundraising commitment apply to kids? How about individuals with Down syndrome? Yes. The fundraising commitment helps us cover the costs of t-shirts, entertainment, food and other expenses. Children under age 2 may attend for free, but will not receive a shirt without the minimum commitment. 2. Will there be registration prior to event day? Yes! We will be in touch with teams regarding pre-event registration dates and sites. We encourage teams to take advantage of pre-event opportunities and then meet your team at Forest Park to distribute shirts and wristbands. 3. When should we arrive on event day? Again, details will be sent prior to UD with event day details. We hope you will spend the entire day (9:00 to 1:00) with us to enjoy the entertainment, food and fun. 4. What should we bring to the walk? - Donations you have yet to turn in - awn chairs, tents, coolers anything to help your team stay comfortable and have fun! - Your walk t-shirts, and any other signs or banners to show your team pride! 5. How will DAG use the funds from the walk? All UD proceeds go directly to the DAG. In 2012, UD revenue helped to pay for more than half of our yearly expenses, and help us to offer nearly all programs and services at NO COT to our members! Find out more about our programs at dsagsl.org. 6. Do donors get tax receipts? Donors are able to get tax receipts from us with a donation of $25+. In this packet is a form you can turn in to DAG to note tax deductibility. Contact our office if you need other documentation. We want to properly thank your donors for their generosity! 7. Is this a rain or shine event? Yes! Just as we celebrate Down syndrome every day of a person s life, we ll celebrate Down syndrome at UD regardless of the weather! 8. Will DAG help promote our team s fundraising events? YE! If you are planning a team fundraiser, contact our office with the details. We will do our best to include your info in DAG publications or social media.
