Commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War (1775-83) The first president of the United States of America. The only president to be elected by the Electoral College unanimously twice Established a plantation at Mount Vernon Died December 14, 1799 aged 67 The Washington Monument, a 555-foot marble obelisk, was a built as a tribute to George Washington Achievements and contributions to American history: Led the US to victory during the American Revolutionary war Advocated for neutrality during foreign conflicts Asserted Federal authority during the Whiskey rebellion Set many precedents in American politics including serving two terms, forming a cabinet, and the inaugural address. Wrote more letters than any other American president (more than 20,000) Established the US Navy Strengthened economic relations with Britain Wrote the Farewell Address, one of the most important documents in American history

ABRAHAM LINCOLN Born February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Sinking Fields Farm in Hodgenville, Kentucky. The tallest American president in history at 6 4 Worked as a surveyor, lawyer, postmaster, rail-splitter and shopkeeper before becoming president. Lost five separate elections before becoming president. The only president to hold a patent (Patent No. 6469) for a device to lift boats over shoals Abraham Lincoln became the 16th president of the United States in March 1861 Widely considered to be one of the best presidents in U.S. history Lincoln was shot on Good Friday, April 14, 1865. He died the following morning. The Lincoln Memorial, dedicated in 1922, is built to honor Abraham Lincoln Achievements and contributions to American history: Saved the Union by fighting hard to keep the United States together as one country rather than splitting into two. Lincoln established Thanksgiving as a national holiday. Issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which led to the abolition of slavery.. DIY Abe Lincoln Top Hat Make your own Abraham Lincoln top hat with these simple steps: Black construction paper or poster card Black acrylic paint Pen or Pencil Paper Plate (18 inch) Black tape (optional) 1. Get an 18-inch paper plate and paint it with black acrylic paint on both sides. Let dry. 2. Cut the black poster card or construction paper about 24 inches wide and 18 inches long. 3. Wrap this piece of card into a cylinder that is about 18 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter. 4. Staple the cylinder at the seams. 5. Cut out the center of the paper plate. 6. Put glue onto the end of the cylinder and press onto the paper plate. Let dry. You can also use black tape to secure.
