She was already parenting a 15 month old daughter. Both parents were working full-time but struggled to make ends meet. It was a hard decision, but the mom said, A good mom does what s best for her kids not what s easiest for her. The doula was able to support her during this difficult process. Recently, a mom had to be transported to Springfield due to preterm labor issues. The mom was nervous about being in a new area away from her family. The doula was able to support her throughout the night while labor was stopped so the baby could continue to thrive. The doula has been able to meet with her several times at Pregnancy Life Line. The mom stated that she loves the support and is grateful for her doula.
Stone County Health Department MAPP Assessment Grant $12,700 over two years (Funding Years 2013 & 2014) Completed a community health assessment for Stone County which can be found at www.skaggsfoundation.org The assessment identified substance abuse as the top health issue in Stone County. Healthy Bundles (Newborn Case Management Program) $123,862 Year one of a two year grant (Funding Year 2014) In 2015, 18 families totaling 77 home visits participated $6,881/per family (1 st year start up expenses totaled $34,622)
Stone County Health Department Healthy Bundles (cont d) Assessment scores are collected from parent surveys developed by Healthy Families America. (HFA) The survey covers ten areas that are common to all families with lower scores being considered indicative of a stable household. HFA suggests families with scores of <25 may not require home visits while household scores of >40 are a strong indication of potential household abuse or neglect if supportive services are not provided. CHEERS is a series of measurements of parent/ child interactions developed by Healthy Families America. It is a tool used to assess the quality of interactions and better equip parents to recognize their strengths as well as challenges they are facing in their relationship.
