Jefferson Coleman collection, University Libraries Special Collections, The University of Alabama. Biographical/Historical note Jefferson Jackson Coleman, son of Wade Hampton and Lillian Jackson Coleman, was born in Livingston, Alabama, on 27 March 1906. He attended the University of Alabama and held positions at the University from graduation in 1924 until 1974. Coleman was the first pledge of Theta Sigma fraternity which was the basis for starting the Delta Chi Chapter at The University on 12 February 1927. Coleman went on to serve The University in many capacities, from Business Manager of the football team to Director of Alumni Affairs, for almost 50 years. Until his death on 19 December 1995, he was the only person that had attended every Alabama bowl game, starting with the Rose Bowl on 1 January 1926. In 1990, The University honored him by renaming Memorial Coliseum after him. - Page 3-

He received his Bachelor Degree in commerce and business administration in 1929 and married Rose Wallace Turner in 1931. He served as Director of Alumni Affairs at Alabama and was involved in all aspects of the University, especially athletics. He retired in 1974.
