Challenge your colleagues and see who can reach the finish line first. It s time to put the pedal to the metal. Booth 400 Monday, April 29: 1:30pm 5pm Tuesday, April 30: 9am 10:30am CONTAINERIZING PRE-CONFIGURED INSTRUMENT TRAYS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Speaker: Nestor Hernandez, CRCST Pre-configured instrument trays are routinely used in complex orthopaedic and spine surgeries (eg, total joint procedures, scoliosis correction). These trays contain multiple instruments with varying degrees of sharpness or precision detailing which pose a greater risk for compromise to packaging integrity before and after sterilization when using sterilization wrap. This continuing education activity offers a summary of the clinical considerations related to the use of rigid sterilization containment systems as packaging for medical devices. A brief review of the evolution of packaging systems provides the background for the current guidelines and standards related to packaging. A discussion of clinical considerations for the proper use and care of pre-configured instrument trays with rigid sterilization containment systems is provided, including information on sterilization verification studies and reconciliation of multiple manufacturer instructions for use. Discuss the importance of obtaining and following the manufacturers instructions for use. Booth 225 Monday, April 29: 4:15pm Tuesday, April 30: 11am KNOW YOUR CLEANING CHEMISTRIES Speaker: Cheri Ackert-Burr The purpose of this activity is to present information on the critical importance of making sure flexible endoscopes are as clean as possible before high level disinfection occurs. Evidence supports meticulous attention to detail for all steps in flexible endoscope processing. Knowledge about chemistries used for pretreatment and cleaning of the flexible endoscope before high level disinfection will be shared with participants to better inform their practice. Guidelines and evidence based practice will be used to help participants make informed decisions concerning chemistry selection for pretreatment and cleaning of flexible endoscopes. Booth 711 Tuesday, April 30: 8:15am and 10:30am OOOPS! IS THAT SCOPE REALLY DRY AND WHY DOES IT MATTER? Speaker: Ann Hewitt The program will identify steps that can be missed even with meticulous adherence to instructions for use from the manufacturer. Evidence based research supports complete drying of endoscopes before use on the next patient and especially for storage of the reprocessed endoscope. This program will share information on human errors in drying of flexible endoscopes and state strategies for improving drying performance and compliance with storage recommendations. Booth 711 Monday, April 29: 2:45pm Tuesday, April 30: 9am and 11:15am

Booth 645 Monday, April 29: 3pm Tuesday, April 30: 10am IT S A DIRTY WORLD...LET S CLEAN IT UP Speaker: Gabrielle Cox, BSN, MSA, MBA, CNOR It s a Dirty World Let s clean it up. Surgical site infections (SSIs) adversely affect patients and the entire perioperative department. Every perioperative team member has an obligation and opportunity to reduce the instances and harm related to SSI. The primary means to protect surgical patients from harm is by effectively cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments. This process must then be validated by inspecting instruments for cleanliness and proper functioning before they are placed into service. This involves using a combination of evidence-based resources with proven outcomes such as protein testing and borescope inspection. This educational program discusses the most common pathogens attributed to surgical site infection and their contribution to biofilm formation. Best practices for cleaning and sterilizing instruments are reviewed including common inspection and verification procedures. Booth 501 and 3:30pm Tuesday, April 30: 8:15am, 10am and 11:15am BENEFITS OF A CONNECTED DEPARTMENT Speaker: Richard Schule, CRCST, CHMMC, CIS, CHL, FCS Work smarter not harder should be a mantra for all sterile processing departments (SPD) as they strive for continuous operational readiness. In some cases, easier said then done, but certainly achievable with today s advancements with department connectivity. Imagine yourself working in an SPD where compliance and standard work supporting the department s quality management system was a daily norm; where streamlined work flow and troubleshooting issues were making the root cause analysis process simpler. The benefits of equipment connectivity in sterile processing is no longer a dream nor out of reach. So, are you missing out? This session is comprised of a 30-minute LIVE presentation, a 20-minute reading supplement, and a 10-question Quiz. Booth 501 Monday, April 29: 1:15pm, 2:45pm and 4:15pm Tuesday, April 30: 9:30am and 10:30am
