SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM PRESENTED BY THE CONCORD ALUMNAE CHAPTER OF DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INCORPORATED P.O. Box 592 Concord, North Carolina 28025 The Concord Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. provides educational opportunities to the youth in our communities. To improve educational funding for high school students who are interested in pursuing post-secondary education (i.e.: 2 or 4 year institutions, trade schools, etc.), the Concord Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Incorporated has committed to providing scholarships to local high school seniors in Cabarrus County (including Cabarrus County Schools, Kannapolis City Schools, charter, and private schools). Academic Scholarship Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to Cabarrus County High School seniors who have enrolled at a post-secondary institution, have established an excellent record of volunteerism and community service and have achieved superior academic success in High School. Need Based Scholarship Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to Cabarrus County High School seniors who have enrolled at a post-secondary instittuion, have established an excellent record of volunteerism and community service and can demonstrate a need for financial assistance. 3.0 GPA or Higher 2.5 GPA or Higher ELIGIBILITY I. Criteria for the Concord Alumnae Chapter Academic & Need Based Scholarships The applicant must be a graduating high school senior and must have attended school in Cabarrus County (including Cabarrus County Schools, Kannapolis City Schools, charter and private schools) for the current and prior academic year. The applicant MUST be accepted to and plan to attend a post-secondary institution. The applicant must demonstrate scholastic achievement with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher for Need Based Scholarship or 3.0 or higher for Academic Scholarship. The applicant must demonstrate scholarship, service, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement. II. The following items must be completed with the application The applicant must provide two letters of recommendation. One letter should be an academic reference (i.e. teacher, counselor or administrator) and the other letter should be non-academic (i.e. minister, employer, community service, etc.) Do not submit letters of recommendations from relatives or close family friends. The applicant must include a personal statement introducing her/himself and capturing why s/he is the best candidate for this award. The candidate must provide a copy of the acceptance letter from the school s/he plans to attend. The applicant must include an official copy of their most recent academic transcript.
REQUIREMENTS FOR DISBURSEMENT Scholarships must be used to pay/reimburse student tuition and other college/university educational expenses (tuition, fees, books, etc.) Scholarships are not transferable. Proof of Enrollment for classes must be submitted before disbursement of award. *This scholarship will be presented at the Senior Awards Day Ceremony of the scholarship recipient s school. OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION Minimum Number of Awards for 2019 Four (4). Minimum Award Amount per Student for 2019 $500. Community College, Trade or Technical Schools qualify as a post-secondary institution. The Concord Alumnae Chapter reserves the right to determine the amount of each scholarship and the number of scholarships awarded based on funds available in the given Sorority year. The Concord Alumnae Chapter reserves the right to determine the scholarships to be distributed based on the candidate pool. The Concord Alumnae Chapter is not obligated to distribute all scholarships if qualified candidates do not apply. NOTE: All awards will be distributed directly to the school. Once a scholarship has been awarded, students must provide the name and address of the school s cashier s office and their student number to the Concord Alumnae Scholarship Committee before a check will be disbursed.
