Due in 4-H Office by 5:00 PM May 1, 2019 Interview Dates: Week of June 11 th Applicants will be notified of interview times MONTEREY COUNTY 4-H LEADER S COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP 1432 Abbott Street Salinas, CA 93901 Phone: 831-759-7389 Each year, the Monterey County 4-H Leaders Council may award up to four $1,000 scholarships to each qualified applicant who has demonstrated a commitment to one or more county leadership programs. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Be a currently enrolled Monterey County 4-H Member 2. Be a high school graduating senior or not yet 19 years of age as of December 31 st of the current 4-H program year. 3. Have a minimum of five (5) years of enrollment in 4-H. 4. Ability to provide proof of full-time enrollment to a post-high school educational facility within one (1) year of high school graduation after the scholarship application process and before scholarship award is received. 5. Successful completion of the following leadership opportunities: 1. County All Stars 2. County Teen Ambassadors (no longer available as of 2018-2019) 3. Camp Counselors 4. Youth Council 5. County Council committee chairs 6. Emerald Star When are Scholarships Awarded? After verification of full-time enrollment post-high school educational facility is returned to the 4-H Office, the scholarship will be paid directly to recipient. Scholarship awards will not be held beyond one school year of the award date.

4-H Scholarship Application Process Information Sheet & Check List APPLICATION TO INCLUDE: Due at the Monterey County 4-H Office by 5:00 PM May 1, 2019 Monterey County 4-H Scholarship Application/Cover page. Essay: 500-word maximum essay, double spaced, Font use: Times New Roman or Garamond, text size: 12 point. Essay must be written by applicant. See Essay page for further details. A 4-H Resume or equivalent (Personal Development Report aka PDR) that outlines your 4-H leadership involvement in the identified county leadership positions. If completing a 4-H resume, please organize your accomplishments into the following categories: Projects Completed Project Skill Activities Events Attended Leadership Development that shows your county level leadership position(s) Citizenship & Community Service Communication Skills including Presentations Honors and Recognition Healthy Lifestyle Activities Two (2) letters of recommendation (attached form required) a. One from a certified adult 4-H Volunteer (not a relative) in sealed envelope. b. One from your leadership position advisor (not a relative) in sealed envelope. INTERVIEW PROCESS INCLUDES: A mandatory interview by Scholarship Selection committee. Interviews will be approximately 15 minutes. Contact the county office for interview times. Community Club Leader signature Date Funds for qualified educational expenses (e.g., books, tuition, other required fees) that are provided to scholarship awardees, are not taxable for the recipient. When scholarship awardees receive funds that may be used for non-qualified expenses, then the recipient is responsible for reporting to IRS the amount of funds received as taxable income.
